This episode was very underwhelming compared to the last few. D&D didn't advance the long built-up Westerosi politics in this episode, so naturally their *ahem* brilliance came to the fore in this episode.
The banter and journeying seems shallow and contrived, the zombie-survival mode is goofy and overstated, the ice sheet cracks under Sandor + wight next to land, but is fine with everyone running across it a second later, and the wight horde only collapses it more than halfway across.

Also the whole episode is teleporty as fuck. How long were the 7 on that island?
It would have taken Gendry at best 3/4 of the time it had taken them to trek that far north to get back to the wall, then it would have taken the crow at least 3/4 of a day to fly to Dragonstone, and then it would have taken Daenerys at least two and a half hours to fly that far.

Lastly, remember that if a dragon can fly from Dragonstone to at least a few dozen miles north of the wall within a couple of hours, it would take maybe half an hour for them to divert to Winterfell on their way back.

Why doesn't Daenerys do that with her dragons in the first place? If you show the local lords and peasants the power of a dragon in the flesh, they'll almost certainly accept that Cersei has no chance of winning and come over to your side, and if they don't, then you can use your dragons' extreme speed and unlimited range to engage in guerrilla warfare behind Cersei's lines! And yet we're meant to believe Daenerys lost 3/4 of her fleet and the infantry half of her army through enemy cunning?

Dothraki walked through still-burning dragonfire, so it's fairly certain that dragonfire after the dragon is done blowing it out is only deadly to underbrush and stuntmen's clothing.

In the episode 4 threads people talked about how the effects of dragonfire on people was wildly inconsistent. In the opening shots with all the stuntmen, the fire acts like napalm, in that it's sticky, burns slowly, and is around ~1000C (hot enough to disfigure and melt through you).
But towards the end, a CGI shieldwall of Lannisters gets turned to ash within two seconds, and nothing of the fire remains on the landscape or any other items, meaning the dragons must have the ability to vary the viscosity and duration of the fire they produce, as well as vary the temperature of that fire by many thousands of degrees celsius!

The 1 wight that came back at castle black was either 1. touched by a white walker or 2. stabbed by a white walker weapon.

If you bring some random person north of the wall and kill them they will just not turn into a wight. The Night King has been shown to have the power to Resurrect thousands of dead at will without touching them BUT he has to do be present and he has been shown to be the only White walker with this power.

So your only options are as follows.

1. capture a wight
2. kill someone in the presents of the night king and hopefully he feels like bringing him back and feels like letting you escape
3. Have one of your party or bring someone to be killed by a white walker on patrol and bring back the corpse and (hopefully) it turns

Just being dead north of the wall doesn't turn you. Or else that fucker tormund curb stomped would have turned. People burn bodies so they cant be turned by the Night king or a walker. Because again, a walker has to touch a dead body for it to turn.
