>ice getting cracked
>>
>>86460366
if it was -100 they'd all have been frozen to ice already
>>
>>86460366
>-100
What? You will be dead in minute with -100C m8.
>>
> -100

fucking kek, our boys would freeze to death in minutes.

>>86460397
>>86460428
I'm talking Kelvins, dumb europoors
>>
>>86460630
Still -173 C you idiot.
>>
Probably more like -20 or -30
>>
>>86460366
You are way off with the temperature.
But yeah there is no chance in hell that the ice would crack considering they are north of the wall where it has been below freezing for hundreads of fuckin years, and it a fucking lake.

shit series is shit
>>
>>86460630
Who's talking about Kelvin?
Faggot.
>>
>>86460678
>>86460630
You're both wrong. Kelvins cant into negative numbers. You can't get below absolute zero.
>>
>>86460428
Jon and Jorah are true northmen. They're immune to freezing.
>>
>>86460712
I live in the place with -20, -30 in winter.
No fucking way.
Looks more like -15, -10.
>>
>>86460740
What, you got a degree in ice cracking?
>>
>>86460792
>targ fucking shit
>northmen
>>

Kelvin Lannister still burned pretty well

You can't have negative Kelvins you idiot.
>>
>>86460869
He's half Stark and was raised in the North. If he's not a true northman then none of the Stark kids are.
>>
>>86460826
after a couple of weeks om minus 25 celcius you can drive on a lake with a fucking car.

>>86460740
Ice cracks, that's what it does. Water is still liquid under the ice and it moves around which of course causes movement in the ice. Temperatures are also always changing causing ice and water to constantly expand and retract. Spots in direct sun will also be warmer and melt a bit
>>
>>86460960
Yes and that car can also break through the ice. Happens all the time with people ice fishing
>>
>>86460630
Let me guess - that measurement was made by finding out how many Kelvins needed to share warmth on a body pile until their stopped freezing to death. Love the burger science.
>>
>>86460366
global warming that magically disappeared the next day
>>
>>86461055
the ice in that lake would be several fucking meters thick. Actually it would easily be a glacier by now.

There is not a chance in hell it would crack unless the white walkers have been pouring hundreads of cubic meters of glycerol into it.

>>86461120
If people drive too early or where streams are.
Otherwise, no. it does not happen (not after several weeks of <25,). We are talking minus degrees for hundreads of YEARS.

Try falling through greenland with your car.

ice is less dense than liquid water. which causes it to float and bodies of water to freeze from the top up. that frozen top layer of ice insulates the remaining liquid water.

the earth has at least once been completely frozen over since life started. plants, animals, etc can survive in a frozen over lake for at least one winter.
>>
>>86461448
What does that have to do with anything I said?

Do you really believe that a lake in an area where the temperature has been below zero for years would crack because you walked on it?
Seriously? I'm guessing you live in a country tha tdoesn't experience winter?
>>
>>86461362
No it won't. The water will only freeze so deep depending on temperature. Just because it's constantly below 0c doesn't mean ice will just keep getting thicker and thicker. The cold has to penetrate through the existing ice and snow and the water below is pulling some heat from the ground as well as being insulted by the ice and snow above. Currents also affect it and pretty much every body of water has some sort of current.

This is some 10/10 bait
>>
>durrrr I think an entire body of water will freeze solid if it's cold for long enough
Fucking idiots.
>>
>>86461632
If the ice is weak or thin in that spot then you're fucking right it'll crack. Ice also has a shit load of pressure on it at all times as it's constantly trying to expand. Our planets poles are covered in very thick ice and yes that ice is full of cracks. Some of those cracks eventually lead to massive chunks breaking off
>>
>>86461655
The temperature is obviously way below zero, I don't think you would argue it's warmer than 10 degrees celcius?

THe lake is very small, a fuckin week of -10 celsius is already 10 centimeters. THere would be little to no streams in a lake of that size, especially not after years of winter.

>he cold has to penetrate through the existing ice and snow and the water below is pulling some heat from the ground as well as being insulted by the ice and snow above.
THat is correct, and for the cirumstances that are depicted in the show the equilibrium would be reached closer to several meters than 10 cm (as in the show).
>>
>>86461821
>If the ice is weak or thin
It has been below zero for several years, it cannot be thin.

I understand if you are making the argument that ice as thick as is being portrayed in the show would crack. But there is no fucking way that the ice would only be that thin. they are NORTH of the wall in the episode.
>>
>>86461821
Trucks are being driven over lakes with seasons ( so only part of the year is cold) North of the wall it has been freezing for as long as we can know.
>>
>>86462003
Without knowing the average temperature and details of the lake we can't know. You're also wrong on the size making much difference. I have 2 ponds on my property and one is just in the middle of a field without any streams connected to it. It's about 20ft deep and about 500ft x 100ft. Even after months of -20 to -35 it never freezes more then a couple inches deep. The other pond is natural with streams but a little smaller then the first. The ice where the water flows again never gets to be more then a couple inches but the rest of it will freeze up to about a foot
>>
>>86460630

>negative kelvins

laugh
>>
>>86462120
>It has been below zero for several years, it cannot be thin

Oh but it can. We don't know what the water is doing under that ice. If there's a current there it could be very thin
>>
>>86462219
Yes and those trucks often fall through
>>
>>8646231
if it's deep and small, it can take a while yes, especially if you have long summers. But trust me if you had -20 for a hundread years you could easily walk on it.
>>
>>86462401
-It's pretty high up in the mountains, so no flowing water abow it.

-It's a small lake

Only thing that could explain this shit is either just turn of your brain lmao or hot springs.
>>
>>86460366
It's technically possible if it froze on top and then the water underneath poured away into the groundwater because of seismic activity.

You realize other people have actually touched ice in their life and to them your random speculation is fucking retarded right?
>>
>>86460630

dat Valyrian steel bait

I'm scandicuck and lakes here always freeze to around half a meter thick during winter. There are actual ice roads in Canada where enormously heavy trucks drive on frozen lakes all through the winter.
>>
>>86460630
oh fuck my sides, o i am laffin

>>86462823
It's not random speculation dumb fuck
>>
Why the hell do they always fall in the water in an icy lake and not die of hypothermia?

The only kino i recall that treats cold water right is Seraphim Falls.
