The writing is dreadful; the game was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time a character wanted to express frustration, the writers wrote instead that the character say "O kurwa."

Marcin's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of the Witcher by the same Todd Howard. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing the Witcher at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to play Skyrim." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "The Witcher" you are, in fact, trained to play Skyrim.

The Witcher 2 has a legit good story worthy of the books. The Witcher 3 has some good moments but the story squanders the promise of both the books and the game that came before it due to hugely divided priorities. At least it has good voice acting I guess.

The first game has a bad translation and mediocre voice acting, but fun atmosphere. The story of TW1 minus one specific moment (everyone that played it knows what I mean) is fanfic tier.

If you liked the books and like RPGs you should play all three but don't get your hopes up for some epic story that holds together across three games.
