What was the appeal of this movie?
throne game of a
You had to be in highschool in 2004 to really get it.
random teenage stupidity
>>86457593
it was weird
>>86457740
Pretty much this. Everyone I knew thought it was hilarious, but fuck I thought it was boring. The only part that I laughed at was the "Tina come get your ham you fat lard" or whatever, and that was only because one of my friends was dating a landwhale named Tina at the time.
Why did everything and everyone feel so outdated in the movie?

This, it was perfect in capturing the sheer mediocrity of high school for most kids while still showing the little strides the kids went through to feel a part of their shit community.
Nowadays with social media it makes no sense, same for anyone not in high school

The girl was very cute.
It just entered teenage consciousness. Like listening to paramore or whining about how bad your life is.
The only reason I'll always remember it is because one of the races in WoW has his dance as their own
You would have to have lived through the 90s to get it.
It's a movie about bored people awaiting death in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. I like it

>tfw I understand this feel as I went to middle school just before Myspace was becoming popular
I preferred high school better. 2000s life was too corny for my taste.
>>86458376
KoЯny, in some cases...
>>86457593
It is Mormon kino.
Also
>tfw ended up turning into Kip IRL and can now never watch it again comfortably
Makes normies feel good.
>>86458545
Thanks for bringing that up. Korn, My Chemical Romance, Emo fashion, Bring me the Horizon. I'm happy the years of edginess have come to an end.
>>86457670
a game so throne
>>86457897
born in the wrong generation mentality and how buttfuck nowhere is behind culture-wise which actually makes them better
>>86457593
it really captures the awkward phase of being a teen perfectly
it also felt really fresh as another teen movie, as they tend to focus on the popular cool kids with friends and Napoleon Dynamite was like the anti-thesis to that, it broke out of the usual mold while still feeling true to the 'genre'
>>86458951
>the years of edginess have come to an end
And now everything is boring and sjw-washed.
>>86459022
>it broke out of the usual mold while still feeling true to the 'genre'
This guy put it better:
>>86458030
>it was perfect in capturing the sheer mediocrity of high school
The part where he hit Uncle Rico's windshield with the orange will never not be funny.
>>86459032
all of those whiny emos became the SJWs
>tfw my dude Kip got his jungle queen
>>86457897
country culture being behind
>>86459561
Makes me wonder if there are places which are still stuck in the 80s. Would visit that place asap.
>>86459648
Russia's small towns. Any other post-soviet country.
>>86459648
Try deep rural Japan.
>>86459731
Thanks, the Caucasus has interested me lately.
>>86459757
Never thought Japan would be behind.
>>86459648
as a comedian yes
middle America is very much still in that state
culture-wise and drug-wise
>>86458091
Tina was the llama
>>86458953
what?
>>86460002
>as a comedian yes
what do you mean by this
>>86460100
I mean I travel all around and have been to places which still feel like they're stuck in the 70s through to 90s, and it hurts that I'll never live in one of them because the work would be damn near non-existent.
>>86460184
Are you a semi known guy?
Is Preston, Idaho or Vernon ,Florida one of the places you've visited?
It's appealing because it's safe deadpan humor, a bit of an oddity. Also, all the neurotic moments Napoleon has are pretty funny, and it has many memorable scenes for better or worse.
cringe-core
micheal cera made a career of it
>>86457593
I think the "tina you fat lard" line is the only part where I actually laughed
>>86460961
"Girls only want girlfriends with great skills" always gets a chuckle.
>>86457593
My theory is everyone that lives or lived in middle america hates this because it simply hits way too close to home.
>>86457876
Yeah, it didn't do much for me when it came out, either -minus the stake to the face scene- but I've watched it again as an adult and I actually quite enjoy it now. Not in the same way everyone else seems to, but it does make me smile.
Extreme discomfort. I get seriously uncomfortable with secondhand embarrassment, like it causes me actual pain, and this movie is like a trip through Guantanamo Bay for me.
>>86457593
Actual humor, and not one-liners.
>>86460302
I'm Australian and I've just started hosting my own show. You work it out dickhead.
>>86460040
a throne and a game of throne
It skillfully captures the zeitgeist of early 2000's rural America in a coming of age film.
It's like a more sarcastic take on Dazed and Confused.
>>86461491
lmao yeah that's been my experience talking to people about it
