Most people can't comprehend quality writing.

It took me a long time to realise, but all those dumb capeshit action flicks, where upon watching them you wonder how in the world anyone would waste this much money on writing so painfully awful? It's all on purpose.

A dumb film is accessible to the widest audience.

Sometimes a clever film can be so clever as to be accessible to all kinds, but more often than not, wit will seem almost like grandiloquence to the common man. It feels to them as if they are being patronised.

Realising this has been disheartening, but also has in a manner reaffirmed my faith in people. To know that all this stupidity is by design, rather than truly confused with brilliance, is a relief.
