I really don't understand why /tv/ hates A Clockwork Orange - it's not like it's even his most well known film.

I think Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick's best.

They're all great you silly sallies, they're different movies for different people/occasions/tastes. Now, I don't understand this hipstery over Eyes Wide Shut being Kubrick's best, can anyone care to explain why they find it to be so fantastic, other than by wanting to be a contrarian?

I thought it was really interesting. There is a lot you can discuss about the film because the answers aren't clear - and may not even be trustworthy. There is quite a suspenseful atmosphere to the film.
The cult scenes are also fantastic. I can only imagine what it was like to watch the film unaware that a cult is involved.

I think the lack of clarity regarding the themes is double-edged sword, because essentially the movie can be about anything you might want to make it be, and therefore ultimately one will be talking about possibilities and nothing much about the film itself. There is fair degree of ambiguity in 2001, but there are some very clear motifs worth talking about, I think EWS lacks this.

A film never made an impact on me as much as EWS did. It tackles interesting and controversial themes and is rather subtle about it.

Well I didn't know that until now

2001, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, and EWS are all 10/10. Everything else ranges from "eh" to "pretty good."

Eyes Wide Shut is his best hands down. A Clockwork Orange after that and thats pretty much it.

People here seem to enjoy Eyes Wide Shut much more than I did. I'm probably biased due to reading the book its based on beforehand. Have yet to see Paths of Glory.
