I dont understand how he died. Specifically. Good movie though.

This is how I'm going to die.
I'm going to take huge loan, double or nothing. If I win I pay off my debt and continue living, if I bust I'm going to kill myself. Knowing my luck It's going to be a one way ticket.

Daily reminder that the writer committed suicide promptly after learning that his deeply personal novel was being made into a Nic Cage flick

He died of the same thing any interminable alcoholic dies of, liver failure, jaundice and a gross malfunction of the central nervous system. What are you, down syndrome?
>>86274518
Liver failure, without blood shunting. It takes a seriously chronic alcoholic to go this way. It is credible since Cage is a big strong guy, so it took years for him to whittle down his body's systems. In lesser bodies, when the liver fails, blood flow through the liver backs up and gets shunted (back flushed) into the lungs, usually resulting in volcanic lung-vomit eruptions of black blood. In such cases the immediate cause of death is drowning. In LLV, his respiratory and nervous systems are so sloth-struck that everything just shuts down. Cause of death is most likely toxic shock, from buildup of waste and toxins in the bloodstream.

I faintly remember him having violent cough fits during the movie.

Cilial sloth. The bronchial cilia, even in many chronic cigarette smokers, continue to clear routine contaminants and phlegm. In serious alcoholics, they get lazy, then eventually stop completely, so the upper bronchial branches become clogged with car exhaust particulate, household dust, smoke particulate, panty lint, and what have you. Coughing is the only remaining reflex.

Just because it's dark doesn't mean it's not still a romantic comedy
>>86274475
It's good.
I also want to recommend Requiem for a Dream if you're into popcorn flicks and Irreversible if you are a girl looking for something arty.
