It's weird, in one interview he'll say he's upset and mad at himself for not taking royalties or consulting CDPR on their games at all, but that he thinks they're well made and faithful creations of his work. Then in another he'll come off as a raving drunk who thinks fans brought in by the game's success aren't even human beings.

I loved all the little nods to events in the books. Memory loss was a convenient way to let a player control Geralt in an RPG environment while still keeping true to the book universe.

Not to mention getting an older actor comes with various problems when they get around to the sword fighting, physical stunts etc. As fit as Mads might be, he's not going to be as spry and active as a 30-35 year old actor, which is important considering Geralt's supposed to have superhuman physical capability so they need a pretty capable actor who can at least get close to that.
