How Ripley knew it was a queen?

From what I understand, Queen Xenomorphs phyiscally grow inside, unlike regular xenomorphs which don't, (the queen facehugger inplants an embryo that grows inside, whereas regular facehuggers implant a sac of tumours or something which infect the cells in the chest)
In the first film the xenomorph wasn't able to be detected by scans, because they grow by infecting all the cells and then when they're ready to go, they rapidly form together into a single organism and burst forth.
