I watched it as it aired, I think I was 9 when it started and 18 when it finished. Pretty perfect age to be watching it, I think. I agree that Lionel and Lex made the show, and I would've preferred the planned Green Arrow spin-off with the Smallville Green Arrow to the one we ended up getting.

The quality of the series itself took a nosedive after Gough & Millar (the creators and original showrunners) bailed. When they left (end of season 7 I think), Rosenbaum, Glover, Kreuk and O'Toole all went with them, which also didn't help. I really didn't enjoy the final three seasons, and the finale was fucking atrocious (although that final scene was great).

Seasons 4-6 was the best shit.
