It was a fun music video that went on for too long.

Watched it yesterday, was pretty disappointed.

>Drax laughs too much
>they tried to give every character an emotional arc
>most of the jokes didn't work and they dragged on

At least Mantis was a big qt.
>>
>>86248794
>put a huge turd in your pillow!!!
>you are soo ugly!!
>you are disgusting!!!

true kino keks had!
>>
>>86248794
It was a lot better than the first. Kurt Russel was more compelling than any character in that movie.
>>
It wasn't great. The characters aren't interesting. Starlord isn't likeable. Green chick is one note brooder. MMA guy is one note laugher. Coon is one note snarky (and not funny). Groot is there for toy sales. Groot fucking up retrieval of the mohawk might've been one of the few good parts. Also Kurt Russell was great because I'm biased. And I can't remember part 1, but was it even a thing that Grant Grant was a father figure to Starlord?

Forgettable brain candy. The best outing for any of those Marvel movies is the first because shit is still fresh--even if it's always the same plot. Capn America 2 skirted that problem by doing a throwback political thriller.

Only retards like this movie. It's a fact. The first one had it's problems, but it's light years ahead of this one.

It was a 6/10, barely above average. The movie focused too much on humor and the villain was extremely underwhelming. They're making Thanos the big baddie yet they're ignoring him.

the acting in WW was awful from everybody except Chris Pine
guardians had a few decent actors. and least guardians knew it was a kids movie. WW had gal gadot doing the same action poses at least 40 times
and the story makes just about no sense. like if that was world war 1, did she have a mental breakdown during world war 2? or the korean war? or vietnam? or what about the soviet invasion of afghanistan? or the coups all over africa and south america?

I don't agree. It continued the story the first one started and developed the characters. That's what a sequel is supposed to do. It was visually stunning, had interesting characters (except for Gamora, admittedly) and had a good villain. More than we get from most movies, superhero or not.

Honestly Marvel shouldn't have tried to develop all these characters at the same time in one film. They should have given each their own solo trilogy to build up the universe and that way in the actual team-up movie you wouldn't have to make each of them sit down and tell a sad story every 15 min.
>>
Am I the only one who found Drax weirdly mean and off-putting in this? He was just socially awkward in the first one, not a fucking bully.
>>
>>86255505
I mean, he calls Gamora a whore in the first movie. He's just blunt and ambiguous, it's a dangerous mixture. I think the problem with Vol. 2 Drax is that he was "mean" in an unfunny way 95% of the time.

Thanks for raising the steaks, James. Really need nonsensical death scenes in my comedies. Fucking Adam Sandler tier shit.
>>

>>
>>86254074
No it was about fathers and sons, apparently. Call me crazy but I never got a father-son vibe from Quill and Fondu.
>>
Just watch this, not an entirely unpleasent experience. Special effects are a treat and Ego's character, while not sufficiently explored, was extremely subtle for a marvel movie. It helped that I skipped through most of the dialogue after all the "it was sarcasm" and "i'm winking with my wrong eye again?" in-your-face stuff. Blue guy's funeral felt like the ROTK ending, I mean they needed three full fledged scenes to say goodbye, what would happen if an actual main character dies? would funeral take half the movie? Also is it just me or did song use felt extremely forced? Like they had this gimmick and not once did it felt fitting or necessary, same with more cool and creative scenes/shots, felt very checklist-esque.

So yeah not bad in some regards but I would have had a miserable time in the theater.

I would change some stuff but he got man of steel and home coming right. Man of steel is one of the best capeshit of recent years, whereas homecoming was a boring, forgettable pile of shit. Most people would have had those two the other way around, and they'd be incorrect
>>
I saw it the other day and found it to be enjoyable but I'd agree its pretty forgettable. Felt like Ego/Starlord was going to be a subplot and there'd be somethign else we'd go see but then they just kept hanging around. Kurt was neat, felt like they ran out of ideas for Drax compared to the last movie, rocket was just quipping the whole movie. The Ravagers subplot was probably the best part of the movie but they still kind of underwhelmed with that.

I really liked it. Not perfect but the movie still has heart just like the first one.
I can't imagine Avengers or Justice League ending with a "friendship montage" The characters of GotG are its biggest strength.
>>
This movie is "just turn off your brain" tier but even when you do that, it's still not good
I saw it in a movie theater and silence from the audience was proof enough that this movie was shit

Maybe a handful of laughs from them

So it's not funny, it's not smart, not charming
It's was just there, that's it
Which is a shame because the first one had it faults but it had potential
>>
>>86254428
>it hardly holds up and isn't as fresh nowdays as it was three years ago

That's just it. That's equally true of the vast majority of Disney's MCU. They're fast food entertainment. With only a couple of exceptions, all of them have a really short shelf life. They don't have enough depth or attention to detail to reward repeated viewings. The story is always straightforward, the characterizations are mostly flimsy, and even the continuity can get a little shaky.

It's completely disposable entertainment, because Disney's more interested in consumers than fans.
>>
>>86260057
Guardians are the exception to the rule.
>>
>>86260098
When I rewatched GotG, my experience was exactly the same as >>86254428. I didn't like GotG2 as much as the first one, even, so at least for me, it will suffer the same "expiration" as the first one, only worse. Gunn's films are more entertaining than most of the MCU for me, but they go stale for the same reasons the rest do.
>>
>>86260260
It's not easy to make a full sci fi movie (with the setting and all instead of simply using some elements of it). It can get boring pretty easy but the setting for the Guardians is very inviting. Foreign but familiar and interesting. I bit like some elements of Mass Effect (with alien culture not being too dissimilar to our own). Also it was first MCU movie of its kind. They had to do without cameo from Iron Man. Even more difficult.

Humor is a hit or miss but it fits better than constant quipping of some Earth-based MCU movies. Drax is a riot at least in the first one.

The characters are my favorite thing about it. The Guardians are actually a crew (or a family as it was said in the sequel). Can't say the same about the Avengers. Everybody praises that scene in Age of Ultron with them having a party. Still not convincing enough. They meet every 2 years to have a huge punchfest. Both GotG movies ended with cutesy friendship moments without a hint of cynicism which is weird but I buy it. No matter its other flaws I want to see the crew again. I don't even care for action.
>>
That blue woman was fucking awful
>>
>tfw when no sequel is good at all

as someone who disliked the more recent MCU movies, I have to admit that I rather liked this one. The jokes were terrible but the premise and story was pretty decent. I liked the God story and the obvious twist and how Ego justified his doings

almost didn't go see it in the theater but it turned out positively. still surprises me to this day that the first MCU movie I didn't see was Homecoming (Spidey is my favourite Marvel character)

Is it safe to say the same people that love to shit on Disney shit is the same audience that the Ghostbusters marketing team was trying to make fun of?

Animating characters is vastly more expensive and time consuming than animating backgrounds.

I go see this sort of movie with friends. Remember what friends are? You may have had a couple before you became a useless, burned out cynic.

This is DC comics territory. We don't tolerate things like that around here

So the music that plays when Star Lord taps into his celestial powers to fight Ego, is that meant to just be for us or is he creating his own battle theme in universe?
I choose the later for my headcanon if it isn't truecanon
>>
>>86248794
I don't understand why it has the same rating on imdb as the first movie. First movie was actually good.
>>
>>86263536
His whole crew mutinied. All the loyalists got shot out the airlock. The typical penalty for mutiny is death.
>>
>>86266611
The songs are all from Awesome Mix 2 but some aren't actually playing. They are more thematic in nature. The Chain is about Peter and Rocket's friendship being on the verge of breaking the first time it's used and Peter realizing the Guardians and Yondu are really his family the second time it's used.
>>
>>86257906
I actually disagree slightly, I think Yondu's funeral was long because he mattered to the main character, not because he mattered to us. It managed to combine a satisfying end to a redemption arc, the growth of Quill as a person, an early-season Futurama-tier development in his and Gamora's ambiguous relationship, and a few good jokes that didn't break immersion ("I guess I did get to have David Hasselhoff as my dad" and "it's beautiful...and so are you. On the inside.")
The Cat Williams song was a good choice, because father-son relationships are sometimes heartbreaking, both for the best and the worst reasons. Quill literally just went through both, and it makes total sense that he'd click on a song with that title while scrolling through a Zune.
>>
>>86266785
>The Chain is about Peter and Rocket's friendship being on the verge of breaking the first time it's used and Peter realizing the Guardians and Yondu are really his family the second time it's used.
Yeah, but I mean is it meant to just be the soundtrack, or is it rather an in universe song that is playing because of Star Lords celestial powers?

As in if another character stands is there they'd hear the song
>>
>>86266483
It's a joke, Microsoft didn't want it in the movie because they worriedt it put a negative light on the Zune. Gunn did it anyway.
>>
>>86262662
Agree that Dr. Strange was way better than it should've been. Tilda Swinton always elevates shit she's in, Chewy and Mads did well for half-assedly written characters, the plot was cookie cutter but because the setting and powers were different it seemed fresh, and Cumberbatch did fine.

God I love this movie

DC unalterably BTFO forever and this will never change

How are you going to one-up the two greatest assemblies of action heroes ever brought to the big screen? A guy with nothing but C and D list Marvel characters crafted the most well-integrated movie series that has EVER existed, made every single movie a well-casted, well-directed, well-written component of a larger whole, and is not even finished yet. Marvel is better than DC
AND
YOU
KNOW
IT
because if the DCCU had even a shred of potential at some point, it threw it away by rushing the process instead of letting characters evolve, overinvesting in muh slow motion meme director, and producing some of the worst scripts EVER
Have you ever wondered why Sheldon from TBBT is a huge DC fan? It's because DC has simple themes and characters in primary colors that act out hero worship pageants with no humanity or moral depth - the perfect media for an autistic manchild. The grimdark version of the new cinematic universe is everything campy and dumb about the old DC but with the added appeal to the subset of autistic people that don't know they're autistic, which has its Mecca on this board.

In conclusion, film classes will be dissecting and learning from Marvel films for decades to come, while DC will be remembered as an embarrassment if it is remembered at all.

I don't know why this was so disappointing. I legit really loved the first one, it wasn't like a 10/10 or anything but it set itself apart from other capeshit and had a focused plot and compelling characters.

This didn't even feel like a throwaway adventure with those same characters, it felt like a jumbled children's movie with swear words.

The only thing that was interesting was Michael Rooker's character's arc but trying to give everyone some sort of arc while introducing a character that the ENTIRE MOVIE needed to revolve around. Ego is Quill's dad. That should be a major emotional story to tell for this character but instead the movie tries to make this a lighthearted romp with no consequences.

There's a good movie buried underneath the fucking godawful jokes that go on for too long but it was fucked with what I can only assume is studio interference and producers screaming for more quips.
>>
Some pretty food CGI, a lot of the jokes were shit. I like it but it feels like filler. The characters are good but Rocket is annoying. I liked the whole Ego arc. Improve or lessen the jokes and it would be better.
>>
>>86267368

It is what it is. I liked it. Felt like a pilot weirdly more than a sequel to a movie. And the mouse is happy to string you along for another three years before they actually do something with all the character establishing they just put us through. Always good to see Batista as Drax though.
>>
>>86248794
Best film I've seen this year, I don't know what you sad sacks want.
I was worried when it started with those shitty shit jokes at the start but it developed fine enough, fun movie with some great CGI at times. Strange interactions that were mildly funny. ENTERTAINMENT
Not David Lynch style wtf was that shit oh it looked so cheap but it's good right because he has that fifties quiff and it was soap opera tier film making, you know the usual arduous films you wank over.
>>
>>86249745
I had to get the bluray before watching it because there were so many of us Chads and Stacy's that we wouldn't been able to sit together in between all the duos of neckbeards in the cinema pretending they are "living the life"
