House Reyne of Castamere (the "rains" of Castamere) were a lesser house sworn to House Lannister of Casterly Rock.

Tywin's dad was a soft, generous leader while he was Warden of the West, so House Reyne took advantage of this to gain wealth by borrowing gold that they knew their lord would never seek repayment of. Gold they used to build power to rival their liege lord's, the Lannisters

Tywin wanted the gold they borrowed, back. While his father did nothing.
But the Reyns told him to get fucked basically (Who are you? the proud lord said) since they thought the Lannisters were now weaker and not worthy of respect from a house that had grown to be its equal, and that House Reyne could fight them if necessary (a lion still has claws)
