some of it

only if you have no knowledge of the source material

I expected complete and utter shit. It was not complete and utter shit.
>>
Barely some of it. I liked the Batou guy in the end.

Watch the original Anime and the Stand Alone Complex stuff it adapts

hahaahahahaha
>>
ScarJo looked physically pained when she had to say my name is... motoko
>>
I love the original, I went in expecting the worst and it was actually decent.
>>
If you're looking for a 1:1 adaptation of the anime? No, they change the plot pretty substantially while still managing to keep the big scenes. If you just want a really pretty looking sci-fi action movie though you'll be all set. Enjoyed it quite a bit.
>>
it's not as bad as everyone says
>>
It's total garbage, boring garbage to boot. ScarJo sleepwalks through it. Don't listen to the "it's not all bad!" contrarians.
>>
>>86243549
it is fun.
>>
>>86244952
The consensus isn't that bad, m8. That said, it's a mediocre movie, and people who enjoyed it have low standards.
>>
>>86245017
>Don't listen to the contrarians.
k, i'll watch it then
>>
>>86243549
Basically remade Robocop with a female lead and took GITS's name!!!FACT!!!
>>
>>86243549
was it good? did you watch it? the answer is obvious and you have it only after a few minutes of watching. and then its all downhill from there
>>
I will say I really enjoyed the music, damn fucking shame the studio or whoever controls it are being twats and not releasing an ost, even a fucking digital one
>>
No, it was a fucking pointless movie.
All they had to do was remake the anime frame by frame
>>
Wasn't the lead actress too fat for the role?
>>
it's a C-
>>
Great setting, forgettable dumb movie. And Michael Pitt needs to get a new fucking haircut.

It was an excuse to haphazardly stitch together a bunch of 'iconic' scenes from across the continuity without giving any regard to why those scenes were iconic.

It was basically lip service to the source material, and while it varied from visually stunning in places to cheap and tacky in others, it really fell flat with a story chock full of Hollywood cliches that seemed to only exist to stitch one copied shot to the next and with all the intrigue and unanswered questions removed in place of a very by-the-numbers easy to digest plot which took any of the soul out of the material and it sits somewhere around the remake of Total Recall or Spectral in the realm of firmly mediocre scifi action movies that could have been good but aren't.

The whole thing seemed like it was put together just to make a good trailer.

Some of the set design was great, the medical staff in particulars costumes were absolutely on point. A lot of the technology was very well done. However, most of this was exceptions rather than the rule and a lot of the charm of the universe was lost in shitty ideas and bad replacements for props/settings/ideas.

Also, Scar-Jo looked kinda just soft and out of shape the whole time.

Skip it. Watch the remake of Total Recall instead. It's shorter.
>>
>>86243549
I loved it

>>86244567
And I know all about the source material

the only people who know the source material and hated this are "not muh" faggots that cant let go of the fucking past.

Worst part was that it felt like it should have been longer to flesh out the villain(s) more. It felt rushed.

And Scarjo was a horrible miscast.

>>
It was exactly ok
The guy they got to do Batou was great, and all of the effects and fight scenes were pretty good, but as you might have expected Scarlet Johanson played the character in the same way she played Black Widow and Lucy: Wooden and kind of uninteresting when she was supposed to seem distant and badass. I don't hold it against her honestly, I think the character of Mokoto was pretty lame in the anime movie too
>>
>>86247510
Yes
They're both movies that are solid C+s on their own, with a few minor embellishments to try and make the remake different, but ultimately pale in comparison to the originals

Read the original manga, the anime, then moving on to this one to see how your take on the subject changes. This one itself as stand along material ain't THAT bad DESU with.
>>

watched the first movie, the second, the 2 seasons of anime, never bothered with the manga or the newer series.

this movie isn't horrible, its worth watching if its 'free' or cheap, but will likely piss off fans that instead of going the more what it means to be human route, and choosing to go total recall.

I have not watched the movie, but watch reviewers who I trust, both who like and don't like anime, it seems the less you know about the series the more you like it, so it's not a complete dumpster fire. but that also doesn't make it good as it got no glowing reviews.

as for letting go of the past, dude we are living what could possibly be a decade away from the beginnings of human augmentation, with prosthesis being able to sense nerve impulses that use to go to a limb that was there, implants that allow people to see again or possibly for the first time, and work being done to completely bypass the need for an ear to be able to hear, the concept of what it means to be human is going, and I assume you are under 40, to be a big thing in our lives going forward, and in a cyberpunk world, you have a great setting to explore what makes humans human, not fucking 'i lost my memories let's get them back'
for fuck sake the only time source material should be changed, and in this case i mean the movies and 2 shows, is when the now idea is significantly better than the old. season 2 where you get a bit of makoto's past kicks the shit out of everything in this movies ass for storytelling.

I am hesitant to connect my brain to a computer, however if its just reading impulses and such, I am far more open.

The only way I would connect my brain is if I could live in a reality that is indistinguishable from real life, but be my idealized self there that way I when I 'sleep' I go to work, and when I wake up i'm back in the fantasy because at least that way I am not living 24/7 in a body that does everything in its power to force a suicide.

Great visuals even if sometimes they didnt made much sense.

Absolute shitstorm when it comes to a plot.
The single fact of that dude killing himself in a cell by just jumping on a leash.
How the fuck can you even strap him to such leash but not provide some kind of security mechanism, even now they take away your shoelaces in jail and apparently they strap you straight to a fucking noose.
