Is the downfall of CN symbolic of the downfall of culture altogether?
>>
What, you don't like 36 hours of Teen Titans Go ever day?
>>
>>86242318
No I prefer a mix of new comedy cartoons, action cartoons and an overall appreciation for the older generation's cartoons. Why couldn't they just stick with this?
>>
>the downfall of civilization is imminent because my favorite cartoon channel has had shit programming recently
>>
>>86242396
Because people are abandoning cable and they want you to want to use their app, which lets you watch it all, whenever and however you want.

Why would they give you something nice on TV when, if they sour that well, you'll have to move on to sunnier shores? And what color is the grass over there, anyway?
>>
>>86242318
Someone explain to me why Teen Titans Go is played so much? Dont they have better shows to spam? It makes a lot more sense when Nick spams Spongebob, almost everyone likes that show.

It's too bad because it was making a bit of comeback around in 2011. They had a few good action shows like Thundercats and Young Justice and started airing the old Looney Tunes shorts.

ratings != ratings

As fucking stupid as that is.

It's a vicious cycle of viewership. TTG got huge ratings, so they showed it more... and more and more and more, and now it's gotten to the point that it's 90% of their programming because nothing else gets nearly as good ratings.

This is not a regular channel anymore, this is like right before G4 became the Esquire Network. This is a channel on its knees.
>>
>>86242777
critical reviews != consumer ratings

The latter is based off of eyes on the screen and has nothing to do with the quality of the programming being watched.

TTG! actually has some genuinely funny moments and the people who make it clearly have a love of DC comics. It's not nearly as good as the original Teen Titans or Young Justice though.
>>
>>86245157
This. Also cartoon network had free reign to do whatever they wanted because it was originally a turner network and after AOL/Time Warner bought them out no one was paying attention to them.
The bigger they got the more attention they get from executives. Instead of creative people making risky decisions they get bean counters making "safe" dipshit decisions based on profit margins.

The original teen titans was made in South Korea. They literally didn't credit studio MOI, but it was made there. Teen Titans Go! on the other hand, was an actual american animation. This s why it was so damn shitty. You can literally tell whether it was made in US or Korea based on the quality of the animation alone, that's the sad part, the entertainment companies in US were never capable of making such quality on their own. That's why once the business venture with the korean studio ends, the show dies, and they are not capable of easily rebooting it, the show was never entirely on their hands to begin with.

>Legend of Korra
>Almost all batman shows after TAS
>Almost all spiderman shows
>Teen Titans
>Bondocks
And many more, all made in South Korea. It's a hard redpill to swallow, but there's almost no quality in 2d animation in the entire American continent.

Two words: Christina Miller

She only talks about Adult Swim.
Doesn't give a single shit about CN. I'm sure of it now. And the Teen Titans Go Shit-A-Thon was her favorite CN show since getting into the cartoon business. While CN was having issues since 2009-2010 it was minor compared to the utter shit show she caused when taking over in 2014. RIP Toonami, RIP Quality, and RIP Cartoons.

>>86247388
Yep, KND was the last of it's kind. When it ended that's when the downfall relatively began.
>>
>>86242267
The downfall of culture is largely due to the internet. Nothing is unique or special anymore. Everything is blended into one moment where it instantly becomes stale and gets replaced. That's why decades are losing their identity. The internet is the worst thing humanity has created, and it will be our downfall.
>>
>>86247754
this bitch needs to air something to take attention away from adult swim so we dont start get more shows like retard and morty

Back then they have shows for different kid demographics, a whole lot of variety you can say

>tfw you remember when it was ziff davis tv
Their coverage of the consumer electronics convention in vegas was my favorite time of year.
I also loved the tiny production cast they had. The screen savers set was just off camera from the call for help set. It was a real small production crew and everyone seemed generally excited to be doing what they were doing.
And short haired bleach-blonde morgan webb was my first waifu.

It'd be easier to grow an audience beyond stoners and nostalgic 20-somethings who have nothing better to do on a Saturday night if it ran at a time that is more convenient for an average person, or better for children to catch. You know, the main audience for most anime in the first place

Looney Tunes is the dadrock of television. There's a handful of classic episodes and even then they're only good exactly once.

Also, ironic that you're fine with Tom and Jerry despite criticizing the Scooby movies for being "the same shit".

Yes. That's precisely what I'm suggesting.

I am confident you could find many compelling articles explaining why Santa does not exist. You are not required to literally and personally check under every stone.

In the same sense, I'm not asking you to time travel and personally bear witness to the decision process that went into ending Flapjack. There is documentation of the reasoning behind that as well.

It's not rhetorical. It's just question if high ratings and viewership are being conflated.
>>

And I said I didn't understand what you meant. You never expanded. Regardless, ratings are explicitly measuring viewers, so I don't really know what you're talking about.

>>
>>86252912
They aren't being conflated. Flapjack's block was the highest rated primetime block among kids 9 to 14. It's ratings were up in 2009, during it's second season. It won an Emmy in 2009.

Nothing is being conflated. Flapjack was both highly watched and well received critically.

You can choose to believe that it was cancelled because secretly it was actually terrible despite every metric available suggesting otherwise. Or you can accept the far more likely reason which is that the main creative forces behind the show wanted to do other things. Which is Adventure Time and Regular Show were both created and produced by Flapjack alums.

They really need to make an Adult Swim 24 hour premium channel that is basically the equivalent to Boomerang, where they show all their older shows (Sealab, Brak, Squidbillies, Metalocalypse, Space Ghost, 12 oz. Mouse, Perfect Hair Forever, ATHF, etc), complete with the old bumps. Maybe even have an anime block, but licensing would probably make that a bit more difficult. I would have that shit on 24/7.

Because it seemed to suddenly go from ATHF, Venture Bros, Brak Show, Boondocks, and Harvey Birdman to random shit like Tim and Eric, that stupid Scrubs parody, and syndicated Family Guy and American Dad.

I'm not going to lie, the show had its moments where I found the sheer randomness amusing. Before, trends, ideas, and decades went by naturally. Yesterday's fads generally stayed, more or less, yesterday's. Culture shifted and brought in new blood and ideas to replace the old in an organic shift every couple of years, in what appeared to be a linear transition forward.

The internet screwed that up. Now, man has at his fingertips the culture of the past 100+ years at his fingertips. Things that would have died or faded with older generations are kept alive in a perpetual equality of availability with material produced in the present. Individuals may culturally time-travel with ease, and find refuge in the past.

In addition, the culture of the past 50 years, in particular, is kept alive zombie-like by a mix of boomer demand and the transmission of it to the future generations. The childhood franchises and stories of a man 40 years old are passed onto his children through the perpetuation of franchises and intellectual properties, renewed constantly to please nostalgia-fueled adults and willing children. It extends to art, music, and a myriad of other mediums.

I fucking despise modern computer animation. Everything is so flashy and quick, the characters all have perfect circles for eyeballs, their teeth are perfectly drawn, even their outlines are perfect and clean. What I hate most is how gags are told through boring dialogue rather than actual animation. I'm not trying to be a "le wrong generation" guy here because I know hand drawn animation is still uploaded to Youtube by solo artists but they don't really hit the mainstream and get enough funds to develop their projects.
