I just want to know if it's good
>>
>>86233425
Pros:
Cool setting, reasonable production value.

Cons:
Horrible acting, mostly unlikable characters, plot and tension-building that relies on the old, annoying "if only everyone knew what the protagonists know" shtick.

Verdict: don't watch it unless you have absolutely nothing else to do.
>>
>>86233548
its alright, first season was good, went full SJW after that
>>
It's alright. SciFi hasn't had anything good in many years.

Fuggen awesome!

It sucks though that it's not 22-24 episodes per season like scifi series used to have.
>>
>>86233555
Shit opinion.
>>
>>86233425
Got into it at first, but it kinda drags. I have every episode up to the current one and plan to binge at the end of season 2.

>>86233451
why don't you calm the fuck down.
>>
oh well, so it's not that good? can you recommend me some good (newer) shows? just finished westworld and it was great
>>
>>86233681
expanse is a good show
>>
there haven't been many great sci fi shows recently. the expanse itches that scratch better than any other sci fi shows currently on air (that i know of).

i hate this comparison, but they're the game of thrones of sci fi - lots of politics and perspectives from the highest reaches of government to lowly soldiers and prostitutes. it's a more "realistic" view of what the future could be, with a little sprinkle of supernatural thrown in.
>>
>>86233425
It is decent. Takes a while to really get going and after it does, it is over pretty fast.

The first half of the season 1 felt like they didn't know where the story is going. The characters aren't very likeable either.
>>
>>86233425
Pretty fucking good.

There are at least 9 books written or planned. You think Syfy will allow a show to go on that long?

Don't even bother getting invested.

Even when it was SciFi, the longest shows ever ran for was 4 seasons.

Hope you faggots enjoy reading.

I don't get 1 thing. Why they never chased by anyone? It can't be that they have the fastest ship in the Solar System. Earth or Mars probably have them faster ships and could catch up to heroes so many times.

It's as good as it gets. It's like asking for a world without friction or drag. This is as good as you'll get in the present, and likely in the near future.

It's much, much, much shittier. Watch it if you want waifus, no other reason besides that. The actors aren't better, the plot is much worse, and there just isn't enough sci in the fi. Now, that and killjoys is what you watch if you have absolutely nothing better to do.

love this show, it drags some times but season 2 really improved in that regard. The world-building is some of the best I've seen on TV, there are so many details to the ships and cultures. Give it a shot if you like semi-realistic sci fi.

>>
>>86233425
I got bored and turned it off after 30 mins.
>>
>>86241097

they have but I was imagining how someone who cares mostly about race would see it.

The white government guys/asians and corporate power plays versus our plucky band of heroes along with potatoe kiwi and 300 packs a day.

and if you throw in walking dead black guy ver 3 in there they even have their token black along with their mars space marines. Which were essentially women and a couple of mulatto.

it's basically a racist worst nightmare. I mean the best white guy just got smoked (miller) so you're left with a damaged ex-prostitute amos who comes off more like a psychopath than even he does in the books.

Holden despite his I'm not even sure what he is but he looks latino of some kind, he looks something other than normal white dude.

So all heroes represent something they hate while only normalish white dude is the evil masterminds behind 'nazi space doctor' trying to turn alien shit into something useful for humanity, who miller smoked.

and other evil white dude who is essentially running earth and is in collusion with megacorp asian dad. and liberals for some reason don't think asians fit their criteria for diversity, so if you look at it from a modern political lens, the divisions are quite clear.
>>
>>86241801
Racist here. It doesn't annoy me very much, though it's definitely an ugly vision of the future. I find it a little silly that a world of 27 billion brown people, over half of whom are apparently unemployed and living on some type of government handout system, would actually be able to achieve affordable space travel and colonize the solar system. But space colonization itself is a silly concept so whatever.

I do think the show will make a good time capsule of how people circa the mid-2010s thought the future would be like. High tech, overpopulated, squalid, ugly, post-racial, rule by shadowy bureaucrats and sociopathic corporate tycoons, etc. We'll see how accurate it turns out to be.
>>
I likeit.
>>
Looked cool. Saw everyone talking about it on /tv/ so I gave it a try.

Dropped it in 20 minutes during the first episode. It was fucking boring.
>>
>>86233425
I fucking LOVE The Expanse.
I hated sci-fi for fucking years.
Got into Stargate, and that opened up my recent love for sci-fi... The Expanse is genuinely a decent show.
It's not gonna win many awards, but it's going to carry on for a few more seasons because it's interesting and not shit.
I like most of the people in it even though I've never seen them in anything else before.
>>
>>86242470
I mean, the thing is that it doesn't really weigh in on if it's good or bad, right? So the concept of UBI has become popular these days, especially younger people. But it's hardly a pretty picture painted.

There seems to be no proselytizing. It outlines the setting, right? Earth is more or less a single entity, Mars is a bunch of texan poos and chinks, and the belt is everything else. That's about all it goes.

There's a lot of forced diversity in TV and movies now, but this doesn't seem like a good example of that. I may be biased since I like it though
>>
>>86237252
Except farscape is absolutely GOAT. WTF is wrong with you? It's nothing, NOTHING like fecal matter.
>>
>>86242869
It takes about 3 episodes for things to get going. You are like the average american, though, don't feel too bad about it.

Universial basic income is a growing reality because our micro/nano technology are only going to increase and A.I will end up replacing a lot of jobs. I mean we're talking a lot of service jobs.

And only way you can fix that is by imposing breeding controls on population or you provide a subsidized alternative. Same reason we haven't gotten rid of coal jobs because even though it's dangerous and slowly killing people, it provides fuel for peak hours and it provides a decent wage.

If we had tech that could easily build jobs instead of making it better to outsource them to cheaper labor markets, it would be better.

But neither of those things happen, so UBI as a basic standard backup is a lot easier of a service, especially in places like alaska where they built a state fund and use it to subsidize their smaller population.

We don't want to destroy greatest wealth creation engine ever made by humanity, but eventually problem will grow and cause another civil war. Desperate people always find a way to fight and system knows this. UBI heads it off at the pass and keeps our hybrid system running.

UBI won't be a thing for hundreds of years. Scarcity is still what drives all economies, and while scarcity exists UBI will be impossible.
>>
>>86244990

We'll have to make it a reality otherwise we will have another civil war.

Any labor historian can shown you what average american has went through trying to hold onto their standard of living and it has been debt and stagnation.

20/21st century is a downhill chart for most of america.
>>
>>86233425
i support it because there should be more good sci fi tv shows out there. but the thing is the story is sort of ordinary so no matter the show tries with the budget they have etc they are limited by the so-so story.
>>
>>86245064
You don't need a civil war. An ordinary war will do, you just need to send soldiers to their deaths, where doesn't matter. Plenty of muslim countries still around.
>>
>>86245190

true, that would do it too.
