Three years to the day since he is gone.
Time flies like crazy.
How are you people holding up?
What if there isn't a new show or movie to fill the void inside you anymore?
>>
I think about the dude every once in awhile and remember that he's gone. It's bizzare.

This.

>>86215989
>tfw no one to share idiosyncrasies with
What ruins the movie for me is the softly mumbled guitar strumming bullshit indie soundtrack. Literally everything else is perfect.
F
>>
It's still very strange to me. When I saw this thread the first thing that popped into my mind was "I wonder what kind of movie he's going to do next." It's so fucking weird. The fact that it's been 3 years blows my mind too.
>>
Why does time speed the fuck up once you hit your mid 20s? Wasn't it just Christmas like a day ago
>>
I think about him all the time. I always thought it was stupid how emotional people got about celebrities dying, you never knew them, why be sad. But when he died, I was like 31, and I cried a lot that day. It was so hard for me that someone who meant so much, and helped me so much in my youth could do that to himself. That it was suicide made it harder. My small children watch Aladdin regularly, as I did. That scene at the end, where he says he's free, I can't even watch it without tearing it up. Thinking about the pain he must have lived every day just breaks my heart.

>>86216077
Definitely top tier movie. Excellent performance, and it's just a great movie about love and acceptance. Something that will be relevant for many years to come. And for Williams to be playing the straight man to Lane?? It's fucking cinematic gold.

Don't forget Hank Azaria, he's a living American treasure.
>>
>>86216338
When you're 10, a year is a tenth of your life, a significant portion. The older you get, the more time speeds up, relatively. It's a bitch.
>>
>>86216435
>Excellent performance, and it's just a great movie about love and acceptance. Something that will be relevant for many years to come.
Not to derail but I agree, but were the fuck has the homophobia on 4chan come from in the past year?

Calm thine tits.
>>
>>86216585
It's weird. Like from the 70-90s filmmaking became more progressive as far as violence, gays, nudity, and then in the 00's it's like the fundamentalist left found the Internet or something. It's all insane backlash. If The Birdcagecame out today you'd have Fox News shitting itself over it, but you can still watch that movie today, and not even notice that it's over 20 years old.
No one even questions how a gay couple got a kid. The kid ends up straight and normal. Holy shit?
>>
>>86216591
Did that retard apologize or something? Holy shit.
>>
i miss daddy
>>
>>86216686
>No one even questions how a gay couple got a kid.
Because the mother is actually still around, although relatively absent?
>>
>>86215989
I hold up by remembering the thread where someone posted a scenario where he turns to look at them through the TV screen and says "think of my death agonies when you try to jack off". Made me howl with laughter, still does.
>>
>>86216739
True, but it's not something people discussed, debated, or gave a shit about. It's accepted as relatively normal, which is actually is.

>>
Why has the last 3 years gone by so quickly.
WHEN WILL I TAKE CONTROL OF MY LIFE.

Seriously. This circlejerk has to stop. You didn't know him personally and feeling sad because he died 3 years later is pathetic.

It's not healthy if you're attached to someone you had no relationship with to the point you miss them three years after their death. You know who I miss? friends and family who I have memories with who moved away or aren't alive anymore.
>>
He'll be remembered for the comedy but as an actor he was underrated as fuck. I recently watched One Hour Photo and it's pure kino.
>>
Is Insomnia with Pacino and Williams worth watching if you've already seen the original?
>>
>>86217086
No, I've never met them. I admire their work, but that's it, and Robin Williams' output was mostly hot garbage during his last decade. Movies nobody has ever heard of or seen.

when williams died, people keep saying he's a comic genius but they never cite a specific example of his comic genius. unlike when joan rivers died, people would praise her comedic skills and then give an example of their favorite joke from her. the reason people do not give a specific example in williams' case is the fact that he is not a comic genius and they're just saying that because they're expected to.
>>
Awakenings is kino.
>>
>>86217214
Has anyone done more for a voiceover role than Williams did in Aladdin?
>>
To those that feel sad, is it because you can relate and have considered suicide yourselves? Honest question btw.
I am totally projecting here.
>>
>>86217208

>>
lmao white people are all doing drugs and then killing themselves SAD!
>>
>>86217214
Normies love to parrot opinions, but they aren't smart enough/they don't care enough to explain why they feel that way. There were probably some source posts of people saying "Robin was a comedic genius. In ______ he had so many great jokes like _____ and _____ and in others he ______" etc. etc. then a bunch of normies just took "he was a comedic genius" and repeated it, expecting people to simply like their post or comment saying they agree with no further discussion.
>>
>>86217214
How fucking young are you?
>>
>>86217214
This. Checked out old Robin Williams stand-up on YouTube when he died. His material was composed of:
A) unfunny zany non-sequiturs
B) stolen jokes
C) Cosby-tier corny conformist observations
D) drug references which (early on) congratulate the audience for having done weed, coke, 'ludes etc., or (later on) fall into the previous category

His acclaim was based on speed of delivery and sheer desperate flopsweat. He was willing to appear to exhaust himself.
>>
>>86217311
Like I said, most people feel emotions and they don't bottle them up or reject them because they're completely natural.
>>
>>86217284

you cite that now but when he died no one cited that. they all just say "i'm sad. he's a comics genius." and that's it. unlike with joan rivers, they go "she's a comic genius. my favorite joke from her was ...." and many people did this in various interviews.

their date of deaths was close enough for me to remember the difference of how people paid tribute to williams and rivers and i noticed no one cited a specific example for williams while lots would give their favorite examples from rivers.

also, his alladin performance was just his same old helium-voice hyperactive shtick.
>>
>>86216113
Elliott Smith. He supposedly killed himself to via multiple stab wounds to the chest.
>>
>>86217397
No, there weren't.
>>
>>86217487
Yes there were. You just didn't see them because they were few. It's statistically impossible that there were 0 zero posts detailing why someone thought he was funny and/or good at acting in general.
>>
August is a shitty month. Robin Williams died in August, and last year, my best friend also died in August. I'm afraid to see what this August will bring.

Anyway, I watched Good Will Hunting this year and Robin Williams did a fantastic job in it. Definitely going to look into more of his serious roles.
>>
>>86217284
Yeah, many people have ACTED in voice-only parts. Robin Williams doing his stand-up isn't that.

He was a good straight actor, though. And World's Greatest Dad is GOAT.
>>
>>86217578
It'll bring my cock up your gay arse you gaylord.
>>
>>86217397

i'm referrring to celebs who were interviewed after their deaths. lots of them, including many comedians, gave their reactions to the news and, as i said, i noticed the difference in that celebs and comedians paying tribute to rivers always give their favorite zingers from her while with williams it's just "he's a comic genius" and that's it.

>>86217421

i think it was just that he's famous because of mork and mindy and people enjoyed that show so they love him for that and they praise him and "comic genius" is just what popped in their minds when trying to think of something to praise him with.
>>
>>86217619
Williams' death hit harder for people. They probably didn't know what to say right away. I'm sure if you look up celebs talking about him now you'll find something. Better yet, just watch some of his movies. That would be the best way to find out why people liked him.
>>
>>86217542
>posts

not the anon you replied to.
i was referring to actors, celebs and comedians who were shown on tv reacting to the news not to online posts. none of the comedians reacting to williams' death gave a specific example of why he's a comic genius while most of the comedians and celebs reacting to rivers' death would cite their favorite joke from her.
>>
>>86217760
well, see>>86217699

They all talked about how kind and loving he was as a person. Maybe that was more important to them than how funny he was. Joan Rivers had a reputation as a crazy cunt iirc. I know Jimmy Fallon did a (cringeworthy) tribute to him when the news came out that sort of detailed why he thought he was funny.
>>
>>86217699
The problem is he'd done fewer than ten films that weren't shit in the last twenty years of his life. Anyone referring to specifics in the wake of his death would have been referring to a dreadful, complacent live act, and a dreadful, sickly filmography. What are we meant to watch? Jack, Bicentennial Man, Man of the Year? These would be more likely to make a person want to dig up his corpse and piss into its mouth.
>>
>>86215989
I'm hanging in there
>>
I feel like I'm always a bad day off of killing myself. Things get better but I always feel worse. Still hard to believe he's gone. I don't know why it hit me so hard.
>>
>>86216715
I don't have the photo but his "apology" was basically him playing the victim card and acting confused as to why people were mad
>>
>>86216591
I can't even imagine what was going through his head at this moment

>>
>>86217979
Dobson is a legendarily retarded individual. Hopefully someone else posts the images of his exploits so you can see just how deep it goes.

Like, I actually don't think it's anything close to what you said. See, he's anti-Gamergate and Zelda Williams supported Gamergate, so as far as he's concerned, she's an acceptable target for criticism.
>>
>about to post saying i agree robin williams is not a comic genius
>be catholic believe all who die and enter heaven become saints
>can't think of reason robin not in heaven
>afraid he'll use his saintly influence to make my life miserable

i would like to say that robin williams is a comic genius. all comedians who died are comic geniuses. except for the comedians who are burning in hell.
>>
>>86217899
What does it matter how good his movies were in the last 20 years though? He did shit that people think is good.

Good Will Hunting
Dead Poets Society
Mrs. Doubtfire
The Fisher King
What Dreams May Come
One Hour Photo
Aladdin
Awakenings

Recently people seem to like World's Greatest Dad as well and his part in the Night at the Museum movies.
>>
>>86218037
He's really just a genuinely bad person who unironically sees people who disagree with him as subhuman. I have my flaws but this guy's loopy.

>>
>>86218067
Because you just said people should watch his movies if they want to know why people rated him. The immediate thing you thought of when you thought of Williams was "shit movies". Any randomly chosen three of his films will contain two stinkers.
>>
>>86216814

>It's accepted as relatively normal

I don't care either way, but no it's not. People held their tongues more back then, that's the only difference
>>
>>86218037

I was almost happier when I was alone and drunk every day. Only reason I can figure I'm still so miserable is that I'm opening up my feelings again instead of dulling and ignoring them. Tried therapy and it just hasn't helped.
>>
>>86218166
Fuck sex workers, you'll feel better.
>>
>>86218221
Sex isn't the issue, I'm with someone and I get off regularly. I'm just always miserable. I think part of it is extreme pessimism that developed as a coping mechanism. I look at a relationship and the first thing I think isn't "I love this woman" or "I'm happy we're starting a family together" or "I have someone to come home to". It's "Great, I can't kill myself now because I'd be leaving her and a baby behind".
>>
>>86218269
Your sex life is a burden, how can you say it's not the issue? You have a relationship with someone who bores you.
>>
>>86218149
It's not hard to find out which movies Robin Williams is generally considered good in.

>the immediate thing you thought of when you thought of Williams was "shit movies"

His famous movies are the ones he's considered good in. Nobody immediately thinks of Jack or RV. The dumber ones might think of forgettable mediocre movies like Jumanji or Flubber, but they usually think of some of the movies I listed.
>>
>>86218288
I wouldn't say she bores me. I care about her a lot. I've been living with this for over half my life now, though. I don't understand how people can actually be happy.
>>
>>86218000
>I'm going to need about one, maybe two thousand years to enjoy my time on Earth and experience everything I want to, God
>You have a hundred.
>>
>>86218311
But only two of the movies you listed are even defensible.
>>
>>86217996

well there are worse ways to spend my time, like on /tv/. i have a good way with words, i'll phrase it in a way that'll stick in his mind.
>>
>>86217214

Mork and Mindy was super crazy when it came out.

He became an institution, so it was more about the body
of work or cultural continuity than a specific performance.
>>
>>86218387
100% your opinion and invalid.
>>
>>86216435
Hank Azaria was the diamond in that movie. I laughed myself to death at his accent.
>>
>>86218431
It's my opinion, and it's not invalid. It's not even that unusual.
>>
>>86218633
If you actually think only 2 of those movies are any good, you hate movies and you're a cynical bastard.
>>
>>86218752
No, I love movies and I dislike lowest-common-denominator garbage. What Dreams May Come is a notorious turd in the bedsheets of cinema, it's amazing to me that you'd place it in a top 8 of Williams' films, it's exactly the kind of thing that damaged his standing.
>>
>>86218822
Yeah, you hate movies and you're a cynical bastard. It's amazing you haven't killed yourself.
>>
>>86218850
It's the lachrymose crap that's cynical, not my rejection of it.
>>
>>86218899
Do you at least have the dignity to say What Dreams May Come is a more enjoyable and memorable experience than today's blockbusters, i.e. MCU movies. nu Star Wars, etc.?
>>
>>86218976
Fuck that, I love Guardians of the Galaxy.
>>

>>
>>86217100

His acting even in Mrs Doubtfire is fantastic, I've seen it enough times growing up that the comedy's lost its flavor but on a recent re-watch I'm only now noticing how good his acting was all around
>>
>>86219137
I like the part where he pisses with the door open like a fucking cro-magnon. They made a comedy where the plot turns on a kid getting flashed by his dad. Brrrr
>>
>>86219118
I'd like you to answer my question, and I figured that wasn't you.

He was arguably too young and healthy for his death to not be tragic, though. If he was in his 70's and had a failing heart (although he did have a heart operation at one point) and arthritis so bad he could barely walk, that would be a different story, but he developed a terrible mental illness that fucked him up when he could have had another 10 years of movies left in him.

Him getting a dementia at that age is not surprising at all, he just killed himself before it slowly took his life over the following decade.

They did a study on this. As you get older there is less of this chemical in your brain, this chemical was essential to your learning and effected your perception of time.
>>
>mention some internet guy
>he actually appears in the thread

Who else can we summon?

Still, average life expectancy reaches into the 70's these days. It just seems like he got unlucky.

>Dobson is a sad shitheap of a human being and it is undeniablr.

That reads like a Trump tweet.

It's more because as a kid you change so much from year to year, you do so much new shit all the time. When you're 41, there's not going to be a whole lot different when you're 42, 43, 44, and so on. You do more and more of the same shit and that's why time feels like it goes much faster. The "cure" to that is to do new shit.
>>
>>86219835
Also consider that as you get older there are less new exciting things you are doing. You just get in the flow and cruise to your eventual death.
>>
>>86223097
Makes sense. I don't like it but it makes sense
>>
Weird. Started watching dead poets society today and it turns out he died today 3 years ago. Nice coincidence

THREE YEARS already? Jesus.

"Comedians" are people hiding their great inner sadness from others with jokes.

I do the same thing. If I didn't joke about my shitty life I would have killed myself years ago.

>>86221663
so he stole jokes because they were good and would make him seem funnier than he actually is

Go to the doctor, dumbfuck. If you want to die, go jump off a building or shoot yourself. It'll be a lot quicker and easier. Bowel cancer will kill you slowly and absolutely horrifically.
>>
>>86224725
I was in the middle of watching Worlds Greatest Dad when I heard the news.
And the kid in the movie died in the same way, auto asphyxiation.
>>
>>86229519
That fucking kid. I thought they went way overboard with how edgy that he was. There wasn't a single shred of anything else about him. He was literally 1 dimensional. It made it hard for me to feel bad about him dying or even for the dad. Christ, if I were that kid's dad I'd be happy the little faggot killed himself.
