Whiplash was redpi-
Andrew was literally only doing what was best for her by not leading her on. She'd be 10x more of a cunt if she expected him to give up his dream because of her concession stand, aimless, lazy ass.

Damien has specifically stated that Andrew was being a dickhead and being blind to her emotions.

Jesus, Fletcher really was out of line

I mean yeah his exit was a little too Patrick Bateman tier in execution, but the idea behind it was solid. Nothing wrong with dumping someone who will only hold you back from your grander ambitions, especially if she becomes miserable in the process.
>you should settle for a run of the mill woman instead of becoming great at your life's greatest passion
unironically a cuck

Everyone knows that Andrew was being an insincere douche, but that wasn't the point of what everyone was talking about. The point was that he was being honest and a bit mature about it in comparison to other break up stories. It's not like the really childish text message breakups or sugar coated garbage associated with teenagers, it was brutal honesty and straight-forwardness. We could've had a movie where she was dragged along and miserable the whole time, but we didn't. We don't need some white knight reddit manchild in the YouTube comments to get defensive about it.

But why can't he do both?

How often does that turn out well? His obsession would've been brutal in or out of a relationship, that was the point.

Because sometimes (read:often) they are in direct contrast to each other? There is only 24 hours in the day. How many does it take to become great at something again? Oh yea, minimum of 10k hours.
How many hours does fostering a loving and truly meaningful relationship take? A shitton of hours.
Sometimes you really only can pick one.

To be fair, Whiplash is horribly written, and the scenes of the girlfriend (and family) used to establish a moral conflict for the character felt tacked on and lazy. Not sure why normies get this bent out of shape for such a mediocre film.

Normalfag with no taste. Surprise, surprise.

Because you're not meant to get what you want. You have to make sacrifices, it's one of the most important lessons you learn in being a man. If you want to ascend the hierarchy in any given field and be genuinely great you have to be more than just a run of the mill redditor who asks a girl out to the movies and works at a coffee shop. Having a will to power, a passion in life supersedes any typical comfort. Comfort is the enemy to greatness.
