she's right that part of the reason it was a bad episode was that rick seemed invincible but it was more the manner .

in the first season he ran from the police through a bunch of portals, he exploded a giant naked man, he got out of the simulation and made the aliens blow themselves up, he invaded the dream of the dog to make him stop enslaving humanity

all these things are stupid and wacky and funny to do, and there is a creativity in coming up with scenarios like that. there was none of that recently, just rick killing people and too much focus on summer and beth who are both boring characters


just go back to morty being a dumb teenager wanting to get girls, and rick being his alcoholic grandpa who fucks shit up and tries to fix it

The show started out relatively simple. Rick was a brilliant but hugely irresponsible burnout, Morty was an anxious and confused "straight man" that Rick dragged along because he need help in some comedic misuse of science.

Now the show revolves around Rick being an unstoppable, god-like force of intelligence, always ten steps ahead of everyone, even multiverse versions of himself, BUT WAIT he has trouble reconciling his transcendent genius with the ambiguity of navigating mundane emotional relationships, which puts everyone in his life, including himself, in the paradoxical position of admiring and despising him. Occasionally there's some middlebrow existentialism.

It's developing the same self-indulgent pretense to worldliness and sophistication that makes BoJack Horseman unbearable. "Yeah, we want to write a show that's basically just an outrageous parody of Back to the Future, but we also want to make it really HUMAN, man..." But don't worry, it's also self-aware, so you have a lot of IRONIC JUXTAPOSITION!

This was nascent in the second season, but once you have characters doing these drawn-out, "cutting" monologues like with the therapist, you know it's too late to save it.

Rick is nowhere near as good as superman. This episode was shit and took itself too seriously (superman didn't when he turned back time)

Rick is not at his best when he's bested by someone, like Mrs Wong. he's at his best when he makes everything via the product of his own nihilism. Rick is a toxic asshole who has made everyone's life around him worse.
Rick is the reason Bird person and friend are dead, the reason Summer, Beth, and Jerry are the last 3 humans on earth in the original timeline, the reason Summer and Morty are depressed as fuck, the reason Beth and Jerry hate each other and are divorcing, the reason Beth is an alcoholic, and the reason Jerry is jobless and basically homeless.

Rick is not the product of his own misery, like she said. That's not true at all. He's the causation of everyone else's misery. it wasn't only a bad episode, it was one that showed the writers don't even know their own characters.

Oh and the show isn't "smart" Anyone who watches this show to feel intelligent should be shot, it's a simple comedy with no real dialogue behind it. When it does , like the feminist episode, it ends up with "well i guess that's how things are then xd" Rick and morty is a dumb and simple show and it's at its best when it does this
