See, what's the point of this? A star destroyer is about as large as a space warship needs to be. Anything larger that doesn't need to act as a mobility platform for a massive superweapon is a waste of resources and manpower. Not to mention it's immense vulnerability to being hit by anything and everything that comes its way since the "Ultra" Star Destroyer is almost as big as a small country.

>>86185892
The Yuuzhan Vong were an original idea, and we can't have that in the sequel trilogy can we?
It also would've served to humanize the empire by creating a practical reason beyond terror for building the Death Star. A planet-killing starship would be an invaluable weapon against a predator civilization flying in planet sized bioships.
>>86188292
>>86188296
I specifically meant Super-Star destroyer rather than a star destroyer. As >>86188292 says, they made sense in the lore as this was set before the rise of the Empire and it would make sense that Kuat would make the same type of ships for the Empire as it did for the Republic. In contrast, who the fuck is designing the First Order star destroyers, and if their is a mega-star destroyer, how the fuck has the New Republic not noticed its construction?
>>86187909

>>86184776
>making the Eclipse canon again
Okay?
>>86185420
>They don't know how to expand the universe except by literally expanding everything
I don't get how it's so hard to have good ideas in Star Wars that they're forced to recycle everything and make prequel movies about the same events.
It's an entire universe. The old republic games felt alive and lived in with familiar and new things. They didn't all circle the drain of what was in the movies. I'm not saying everything in them was gold, but there were certainly a lot of stories to be explored outside the movie canon.
Or how about the roleplaying games we had back in the 80s and 90s even. Some of the first shit I played. We didn't make stories about Luke's distant cousin who happened to be in the background of the events of the movies.
We wanted to make stories about some Mos Eisley inhabitant who dreamt of becoming rich and famous as a smuggler, or some drunken jedi knight fighting to preserve relics from being destroyed by the empire, or bounty hunters for the empire racing around the bigger planets doing shady shit.
I mean it's not that fucking complicated to open the world up. If literal basementdwellers can come up with stories then why the fuck can't Disney?
>>86189018
Yup, I really liked that touch, that the Jedi actually fucked up big time by killing Emprah and fighting the Empire.
It blurred the lines between good and evil.
>>86189411
Basement dwellers have imagination and free creative reign to do whatever they want. Disney invests $200 million on producers, directors, executives, and everything else needed to write a film. They need a guaranteed return. So they write the safest, cleanest, most generic script possible to appeal to as many demographics as possible. Even the casting reflects this. Checking every box. Rogue One took an actual risk and paid off by telling a minor story before Episode IV and abandoning the typical Star Wars tone. They probably won't do it again.
>Hey guys we need new ideas for episode fi- I mean eight
>Anyone have anything new?
>Yeah how about we have imper- first order walkers attack a rebel, er I mean resistance, base, and a massive star destroyer
>perfect
>>86189616
No, Thrawn blurred the line between good and evil by wanting to unite the Galaxy against the Vong.
Palpatine just continued to build up the Imperial fleet to jealously hoard his power, even against the oncoming invaders.
>>86184776
Too late.
>>86189656
>Disney invests $200 million
See that's mistake number one. Why does the movie need to be HUEG? They've already decided to do the big Star Wars stories forever, alright let them.
But the smaller side stories?
> They need a guaranteed return.
Step one of that is having a minimal budget. Use nobodies who can act.
> Rogue One took an actual risk and paid off by telling a minor story
But it wasn't a risk because it told a story we already knew the ending to, it sanded off the rough "war" aspect during production and they had to end it with a fucking Darth Vader tie-in scene that made no fucking sense.
It's like the uncanny valley inbetween making a predictable shitty movie and taking real risk, it pleased nobody.
> They probably won't do it again.
Now this part is likely true.
>>86189839
>It's like the uncanny valley inbetween making a predictable shitty movie and taking real risk, it pleased nobody.
That's as close to a real "risky" film as we can hope for. And since it raked in an unexpected billion dollars there might be hope for more lukewarm originality instead of hopeless legacy pandering. But any and all hope for a real classic from nu-Wars should be abandoned. Disney won't let it happen. Everything is safe with Disney.
My ideal one-shot Star Wars anthology film would be a scifi film set in the underground of Coruscant with a budget below $50 million. It would focus on the criminal element and on smugglers and security guards making their livings down in the darkness. Nobody is Lukes second cousin twice removed, nobody is the chosen one, maybe some self-taught force users or mysterious characters poking their heads in every once in a while. But that would never be made.
>yfw this is the ring theory but it's actually plot centric
>They pull some matrix bullshit where Rey is trying to break the ring with kylo

>>86194249

>>86194173
Bizarrely enough I'm beginning to pine for the prequels. At least they used unique new designs, and original storylines - a phantom menace is Jedi trying to rescue a planet under siege by robots. The clone wars is the republic being split into war against an invading army of robots, and revenge of the sith was the conclusion of that war, with the emperor rising out of it to consolidate his power as ruler. Sure the acting and dialogue was crap, but at least it was fresh.
The Force awakens was just an inferior rehash of the first movie, with a little sprinkling of the second thrown in. i don't have high hopes for episode 8.
>>86188348

Building something that massive requires manpower, logistics, supplies, etc. it's not about seeing it with their own eyes so much as the hundreds of millions of people that would know of its existence already. And the massive resources and brainpower needed to plan it out and build it. You're talking about a construction project near Death Star size.
