Here's what happens in the episode. Bronn shoots the dragon with the scorpio, the dragon takes the hit and lands down, while breathing fire in Bronn's direction who in a convenient turn of events gets out of the way in time. Now the dragon is on the ground, Daenerys jumps down and starts taking out the bolt IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE, in the mean time Jamie charges her so the dragon turns around and breathes fire at him but of course thanks to a convenient turn of the events, he gets saved.

I think you and I are looking at this from two different perspectives. I see the dragon struggle for a minute and then regain the most of his strength right before attacking Jamie. You can argue that more bolts and more scorpios would be more effective but my point is that it doesn't "look" effective. Why not have the scorpio take out the dragon for the rest of the battle? Why not show him actually in pain and full on whimpering? You said it yourself, it went through Balerion's skull.

So I never watched this show, but have read all the books released thus far. I know the shows have diverged from the books but people really like her that much? It's been a few years since I read the seventh one but I eventually started skipping some of her chapters because she became so insufferable.
