Seattle in the 80s/90s was a growing port city, particularly the gateway into Asia (Japan at the time)
It was all the way up in a corner of the US most people don't normally think about, yet was still relevant enough through its contributions of music and the companies based there (Boeing)
I could see why they picked it just to make it a "unique" setting at the time when most shows were in LA or NYC
Fraiser was heavily inspired and sustained by grunge music

Fraiser was a spinoff of Cheers. They wanted to set it on the opposite side of the country from Boston so that the general lack of recurring characters from the Cheers universe (and the sudden addition of the new ones) would be easy to explain.

Grunge was already over by '93.

his dad was murdered by someone called arthur niles
>>86171815
why wasn't it set in london then
>>86173671
They couldn't afford to play London Calling at the start of every episode
>>86173671
Because Fraiser was already established as coming from Seattle.
