It should come as no surprise that both the writer of the books and the developer of the games are both from Poland, a country with a cultural and historical heritage that has been annihilated throughout history by various parties.

I mean I can see your point with the chin, lips and nose, but I always interpreted this scene as Geralt heavily scrutinising her appearance because he's curious about what she altered, and noticing practically minute imperfections. Imagine a woman actually having all those features that your or I could notice - they would look very weird.

I would imagine to any normal person she looks pretty great and attractive - that's kinda the point of sorceresses altering their appearance.

Plus you're not going to find a decent actress who is the right age and matches up with all those facial features perfectly, might as well find a decent enough TV actress and meet halfway.

The games would be more fun if it was Geralt and someone like Nivellen or something going on cooky adventures.

The movie was based on the short stories before they announced they were switching to a Netflix series, but considering there are only 2 books of short stories it's obvious they'll want to use the main saga for the story, with the short stories being used to set up for that.

So my guess is season 1 will be short stories and maybe a little bit of Blood of Elves, then the rest will be the main saga. That's what I'd hope for anyway. Going with that we'd see The Rats in the second or third season, and Regis in the third or fourth.

Meaning that the only characters from the games we will probably see are Dandelion, Foltest, Adda, Young Emhyr, Young Crach and Ermion. Ciri won't be there at all, as she is not even born yet.

Not to mention I imagine the show won't be as enticing if it's all disjointed stories in episodes with very few recurring characters. Having some proper semblance of a story would garner more interest and thus more seasons.

I guess they could play it safe, but that could also be their downfall. I'd personally focus on the important short stories and the first parts of the main saga in Season 1 to draw a proper audience in, then use Season 2 to dive into the main saga and keep gaining viewers as it 'gets good', but still end nicely in case that backfires and it gets cancelled.

I'd like to imagine Netflix must realise they could have their own Game of Thrones if the show takes off properly, so they should be going into this with the hope of launching into the main saga, rather than expecting the worst. The announcement of the show already got a lot of attention so it's possible it could be as popular as the various Marvel series' and become on of their main shows.

Andrzej may be a mediocre author with delusions of grandeur, but there is nothing wrong with the setting itself. If put into the hands of a competent creator (like CDPR) it has all the potential of being another fantasy blockbuster. Besides, Geralt barely does any monster hunting in the books, or at least not as much as in the games.

The idea that Andrzej worked from is that in a world where monsters are something very real and threatening, there should be a caste that specialises in disposing of them, hence Witchers. Like a medieval sort of Pest Control. But they also slowly make themselves unemployed by every monster they kill, so they're doomed to eventually become a mere curiosity, which will either doom them completely or force them to find another purpose in life. Geralt finds his in politicial intrigues and Ciri, the daughter he wishes he could have.

Sorcerers, and sorceresses in particular, are depicted as a bunch of incompetent idiots in the books.

First they try to "infiltrate" the courts of the four kingdoms as (((advisors))) to gain power. The organization they have at this point is called Brotherhood of Sorcerers. But the northern rulers are actually quite good at politics and at winning hearts, and it's the brotherhood itself that ends up being infiltrated by mages that are loyal to the rulers. At some point Philippa, Keira and other sorceress stage a coup to purge the brotherhood from loyalists (The Thanedd coup). But unknown to her, elven BFFs Francesca Findabair and Ida Emean also stage a coup, siding with the scoia'tel to kill all human mages and create a free independent non-human nation. As a result, the brotherhood is destroyed and mages lose all official political structure and power.

Then they form the Lodge of Sorceresses. This time with no boys allowed (but the elven sorceresses that betrayed all the others and almost killed everyone still welcome). From here, they start chaining a string of hilarious fuckups, one after another.

At some point, they send Fringilla Vigo to seduce Geralt and possibly learn where Ciri and Yennefer are. But Fringilla ends falling head over heels in love with Geralt instead. Geralt blatantly lies to her about the location of Vilgefortz castle (where Yen is held as bait for Ciri). After being discarded as a used condom, Fringilla reports to the Lodge, and they proceed to blow up the wrong castle. Then they manage to find the right castle, but Geralt, Ciri and Yen are long gone. They blow it up anyway.

Then they finally manage to get hold of Ciri, with the idea of exploiting her lineage and elder blood. They summon her to explain their plans, it goes basically like this I'm not kidding:
