Dealing in manlets is a vicious circle. Once you make the mistake of casting one or two in a key role, you are basically forced cast only manlets at their side, as having too many average-heighted individuals close to manlet main characters will ruin the choreography.

unironic answer: shorter men often have more narrow, chiseled features and when you are casting for a lead character you generally want a more narrow face because those are typically considered more attractive, and height can always be disguised with camera tricks or standing the actor on an apple box or whatever. Hence why many leading men down the decades from Robert Redford to Tom Cruise are manlets.
