At the end of the Return of the King on opening day in the first showing there was like a solid minute of cheering and a standing ovation, not a dry eye in that theater i swear

It was also so busy that in one section where there was an aisle they put down a huge mat and let people buy literal floor seats so there was an extra aisle with like 30 people there. Waited in line for like an hour or so beforehand to get seats

Australiafag here, people laugh, cry, scream, and gasp, but i've never heard clapping before.
Usually when something clap worthy happens, most people go deathly quiet and some people will say something like "oh my gooood!" or murmur to the person next to them

It was a shitty fucking reveal it made me groan instead of clap

How was it shitty? The music started to play and then revealed David.

>>86122692
This scene is probably the sole reason why I think fondly of that film
>>
>>86126869
>>86126979

Yeah I mean when something major happens or there's some big reveal/plot twist, you will hear a load of murmuring etc.
Like other some other anon said above, the audience will lose their shit, but never clap. Like people will move around in their chairs all restless, and some might cheer.

The only film I've been to where people came close to clapping recently was BvS when Wonder Woman entered the fight, I just about jumped out of my chair when that happened

never, as I don't live in Burgerland where I'm so hopped up on meds that I feel the urge to cheer emphatically at a fictional event.

>>
>>86127514
It's sad - they're literally incapable of reacting properly, because they know they're being watched. "Dany is a good guy, right? I think that's an accepted opinion. So I'll cheer whenever she's on screen doing something that looks cool." You can't enjoy the show at a place like this - only thing on your mind is consciously deciding how to react, then hamming it up for the cameras.

Didn't watch this in the cinema (came out way before my time), but when I saw it for the first time, the ending literally blew me away.
I don't wanna spoil it, because lucky for me the ending wasn't spoiled for me and that made it so much better. Excellent foreshadowing, just unexpected enough as to not be predictable.
I physically fell out of my chair when I saw that, and my mouth hit the floor, then I jumped onto my feet. Still didn't clap, but I don't live in america. Easily one of my top 3 cinematic experiences ever.

Another ausfag here too (it's primetime cunts), no cheers but almost the whole cinema groaned/booed at Joseph Gordon Levitt's middle name being Robin in TDKR. Was pretty surprised normies would be annoyed at shit getting spelt out for them like that. Either it really was THAT dumb or the cinema was full of relatively cool people.
>>
>>86129345
Or maybe it was most normies knowing Robin as Batmans annoying little bit of jailbait ass. When the few cool people in the cinema started groaning, they joined in too because thats normie nature and they thought they knew what was going on. Fuck dude, maybe they just all started groaning because one guy was with no idea why other than normie instinct. Wouldn't put it past them.

Well what I was referring to in my first reply:
>>86128477
was the part where Ripley is attacked by the Queen in the ship, escapes and comes back with the exosuit mech.

It was unexpected, yet foreshadowed. We see her using it at the start of the film, and I guarantee no one thought too much of it until the big reveal at the end.

When I saw it for the first time I was thinking to myself "how the fuck is she gonna fight this thing?". I thought the queen disembowelling Bishop was supposed to be the big twist so I, like most other people, let my guard down. I thought ripley was gonna grab a rocket launcher or something, run back and shoot it a few times, done, movie over

When the doors open and she was in the exosuit, I was so caught by surprise, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was what I was least expecting but something I had known all along. That was why it was so great
>Also "Get away from her you bitch!" was incredibly bad ass
>>
>>86131541
I agree with Ripley's line, definitely one of the most bad ass lines in film history.

But I'm going to have to disagree with you there on the unexpectedness of the use of the exosuit, it definitely didn't have as much of an impact to me as it did to you. But maybe I'm the outlier in this situation.
