It's almost not even a war movie, it's a suspensful thriller abou transporting a fuckload of people from point A to point B under dangerous circumstances. It plays more in the psychological fears like claustrophobia and drowning than physical fear of dismemberment and gore, hence the PG-13 rating.
It has more in common with a film like The Wages of Fear than with Saving Private Ryan.

The entire film is told exclusively from the british soldiers perspective, and we as the audience, just like those soldiers on the beach, don't see a single german soldier up close. Most of the scenes involve drowning, bombing from far away and aerial fights. Do you really need a yet another ww2 film with soldiers running around with their guts in their hands?
