all the episodes leading up to 8 were pure satire, both of modern TV dramas and of the first two seasons of Twin Peaks, and of course the fallacy of middle American "purity" that Lynch has been playing with since Dumbland. past episode 8 the show has been more about addressing the most important loose threads of the series fiction and being the kind of mindfuck Lynch is known for producing. the only thing I've missed is the pure horror of the original series. so far the only scary bits have been the experiment model's introduction and Laura's ghost

Chrysta Bell as Tammy. Chrysta may be hot, but she is absolutely terrible at acting. The worst performer to have ever been in Twin Peaks. She's worse than the guy who played Leo.

It's like lynch didn't take into account what made Twin Peaks such an interesting series, even FWWM had more plot development and we've seen over 13 hours this. The only people who are liking this show are contrariness who don't remember why Twin Peaks was good in the first place. Lynch has a warped sense of what made the show successful and now he's burning it into the ground like he did with the last half of season 2.

It's almost perfect, just irritating when Lynch seems to be doing shit solely for the sake of being alienating

Jacoby scenes are haunted in the same way Sara's scenes are, with background objects shifting slightly indoors, and cgi stuff done to the trees in any outdoor shots. You only see Nadine watching him, and there was none of the shifting in the first scene, but in the next two, there is. And then he comes to see her in person, and as they talk, her curtain starts moving on its own in the display and she's so in it now she doesn't even notice. Yes Lynch can make convoluted stuff, but think about how much information or subtle stuff is in Mulholland Drive or Blue Velvet. But The Return is just a man repeating himself for 20 minutes and a character uncovering 1 new clue in the B plot, and someone dying random just for a little bit of Le gore.

It's boring and slow and people are only giving it a pass becuase it has the TP name on it and it's Lynch, but it's objectively bad compared to the original, which moved the plot forward constantly and gave you a reason to watch the following week.

Lynch directing a scene where a woman fearing for her life knows a man who very well might kill her could walk in a room any second should be masterfully done by him if his past works is anything to go by. And we get a sterile, boring motel room, a wooden and laconic performance from MacLachlan, absolutely no tension whatsoever since we know she is dead the second he finds the gun, a boring ass long-take shot from a couple of feet away, some pretty shitty dialogue and that was it for what should have been a showstopper scene.

but this is 2017 lynch who wants to shoehorn in his celebrity friends like Chrysta Bell or Trent Reznor into his show. maybe he forgot how to direct. maybe he just doesn't care anymore. The entirety of Season 3 is using the emptiness aesthetic, whether it's the way scenes are presented, the pristine, stop-motion nature of the visual effects, or the quiet, but ever present droning background noise that occupies "silent" scenes. There's a reason why Papa Lynch wants people to watch this on the big screen, in the dark, with the volume high on headphones.

Nothing's gone wrong, it's a good show.

That's one of the things I like about the new season the most. It's still Twin Peaks in its core themes, but they completely stripped away the superficial aspects of it and replaced it with something new. I also like how they've turned a fan favourite characters like Audrey and Cooper into something completely different. That takes genuine balls

I like the start personally every thing up to the episode where Dougie uncovers the files.

My issue with the show has become WTF is the point/motive I don't have a reason to care, it's barely involving the town it's named after it fill more like random filler after random filler. It's so schizophrenic in both tone and content I hate it. Doguie has become more than a mary-sue everything just goes his way but what for. cream corn has played little to no role. I'm glad we finally talked about the ring Lynch has created this world filled with cannon and mystery and instead of exploring it he just keep adding to it.

I do agree the directing is really bad, like the arm wresting scene had fake tension or like you said the scene in the motel. I feel like there are great moments in it, but the show is so random XD now that I don't care about any of these characters or their interactions.

And he's talking about doing another season, for what? I feel like he's trying to recature a lot of the heart of the original but missing it.

The new seaons feels like visiting your hometown and realizing either they changed or you've changed. And you want it to work but for some reason you can't seem to get past the tension and small talk stage.

The ideas are there, it's all there for lynch but he can't execute it

You call it disrespectful but I'd say it engages critically with the character and with the romantic view of vigilantism he represents. Even in some of the more optimistic Batman stories it's clear that he's troubled and there's a pretty thin line seperating him from actual criminals. The one we see in the movie cracked and started to become more violent and more merciless than he used to be. He wasn't an antihero, he was a villain who was eventually redeemed.

Lynch clearly has a deep contempt for his audience, and I doubt there is anyone he hates more than his "fans." S3 is an allegory for letting go of the past; it is only wonderful and strange in your memories, and nothing can be the same or better, only worse. The interesting paranormal elements are regularly downplayed to show how everyone you liked from Twin Peaks have become literal cuckolds, sell outs or plain losers, and the show regularly insults viewers for investing themselves in uncovering the mysteries of the black lodge.

no shit, how to you capture the essence of something that aired 25 years ago and which ended with a very dark cliffhanger? Let's face it, Lynch realised the worst thing he could've done is pander to the nostalgiafags who only ever wanted to see Coop snap back into being himself again and have a le epic battle against his doppelganger and then go back into Twin Peaks to have coffee and pie. Do you think the show would be good then? Do you think doing a rehash of a soap opera but in the 21st century would've been good?
