Spear walls weren't really such an effective thing in medieval warfare. The antiquity warfare made them work better due to higher discipline and physical conditioning of troops (and lower quality cavalry), whereas renessaince/early modern age warfare used pikes and specialized formations to counter heavy cavalry. The medieval version would be able to slow down, not halt a cavalry charge at best.
