Why are you intentionally being obtuse? The trailer is simply one of the various ways to demonstrate Emmerich cared more about topping JP than honoring Godzilla. Was the John Williams-sque score not enough? Or the not-raptors running around Madison Square Garden? Maybe Emmerich admitting he only ever had disdain for Godzilla?

he took it back to its roots of having an actual story and meaningful themes which are much more honoring of the original than any of the dreck that came before or after.
