Especially after it was the french cavalry who charged into the English position which was at a disadvantage to them (they didn't have to do this). The cavalry charge is what tore up the field and created the muddy terrain which allowed the archers to pick people off at point blank range.

Some french died from trampling and even drowning, but the vast majority were killed after they were captured. The arrows did one job: they killed/injured the horses, which resulted in the terrain getting fucked and people getting trampled.

It's theoretically possible for an arrow to make it through heavily damaged/worn/rusted sections of mail, that is true, but it would have been so exceptionally rare that no one would have relied on it.

They are the design you want to use to give you the BEST chance at making ti through armour, but that does not mean they did regularly.

By the 14th century, archers were considered basically useless against armoured opponents.

However, not all armies had everyone in armour; a lot of militias were simple peasants with makeshift weapons.

People seriously underestimate how effective armour is; a good suit was armour made you almost invulnerable. In fact, knights would often resort to wrestling eachother to the ground, pulling out their arming dagger and trying to stab through the holes in their opponent's helm.

To be fair, in a cavalry charge, unless you're able to muster your men for a second charge, there's usually one blow to the defending army. If the defenders don't shatter on that first blow, then the cavalry is bogged down and rid of the momentum it had before, and becomes a very poor fighting force.

Yes it's hard to not collapse at the onslaught of a 550Kg horse, but if you do, it's game over for the cavalry fucking shits.
