No, the scenes are unnecessarily long and if it came out today it would be criticised for it, I dont care that it was the "first to do it", it did it wrong. It was so basic how he filmed the apes, I see more complex filmaking from a wildlife documentary.

I unironically agree with this, the movie is terrible, with only a few scenes worth seeing, like the cut from the prehistoric times to the future, some special effects, and the HAL 9000 segment - the only part of the movie I consider not being pointless.
To think this is Kubrick's best, or one of the best movies ever made, is insane. It's one of the worst and most pretentious movies ever made, no ifs, ands or buts. If you want an actual slow masterpiece of a movie, you watch Aguirre or Stalker, not the steaming pile of shit known as 2001.
