Michael Mann's best. Very rewatchable, not just for the action scenes. It's very character-driven and all of the main cast does a great job, I think. Al Pacino is a little over-the-top in some parts but it works overall.

Does Heat qualify as a film women will never understand?
>>
>>85963268
Yes
>>
>>85962802
Mann films always readily admit that the main protagonists are fucked up people. It's part of the very structure of his movies.
>>
>>85963268
>Does Heat qualify as a film women will never understand?

Yeah, actually. In a way you could say that Mann films are in a big way about the things that women by nature don't understand about men. It even figures into the plots. That obsessive need to work or pursue some hunt that a man has, that his wife or girlfriend will try, unsuccessfully, to pull him away from.

Mann films are literally Women Will NEVER Understand: The Movie

moron
>>
>>85954408
In my opinion it always had a sort of "Heroic Bloodshed" vibe in it. "Heat" felt like somebody who made a John Woo movie in the US with US aesthetics. That Mann originally didn't want to direct that and wanted Walter Hill for it (who is well known for slow motion shootouts, similar to Woo) even underlines that.

That being said, Heat is probably one of my favorite movies, if not my favorite.
>>
>>85964932
It's "should of" when you're reading a dialogue, which is where the confusion comes from.
>>
>>85965081

What the fuck are you talking about? There's nothing Woo about the script. Walter Hill's direction is also nothing like Woo's.
>>
>>85955349
>>85955367
Lol why did they hold hand are they gay or something? I'm a girl btw
>>
>>85965160
The themes of how important loyalty is, the respect the Cop and the Criminal has for each other. It reminds me a lot of movies like "Hard Boiled" in that matter.
>>
>>85965158
It's people watching movies with subtitles on and who don't realize it's only meant to be used in spoken dialogue, since they see it as written text on their screen.
>>
>>85965081
Both Mann and Woo are heavily influenced by Melville and Peckinpah, Hill too for that matter. Heat is basically a remake of Le Cercle Rouge.
>>
>>85965254
That could be the reason, I never saw a Melville or Peckinpah Movie until I was 21 (I am 24), so perhaps I always think of Woo because I saw his movies earlier without having a knowledge about movies like Le Samourai or Getaway.
