What's the best live-action adaptation of Spider-Man?
>>
>>85944453
Spider-Man (2002) & Spider-Man 2 (2004)
>>
>>85944453
Depends on your tastes. The first two Raimi movies as well as both of Spidey's MCU appearances get a lot of praise. As a character, general consensus (outside of /tv/) is that Tom Holland is the best Spidey yet.
>>
SM > SM 2 > ASM > Homecoming > ASM2 > SM 3
>>
Character wise probably Garfield. I like the way he actually acted like a spider
>>
>>85944567
Also ASM1 and 2 had the best swinging.
>>
>>
>>85944567
Garfield was a better Spidey than Maguire, but his movies suffered from being ash can copy cash-grabs designed to keep the character from Marvel. Holland has the best of both worlds, as he's a fantastic Spidey and stars in great movies (although the Raimi movies were better for their time than Homecoming is, though they have probably aged poorly).

Why not Toei's Spider-Man? Marvel actually used it in the comics recently.

>Garfield was a better Spidey than Maguire
No.
>>
>>85944678

It's not even a close contest. Maguire wasn't convincing as Parker or Spidey.

As Parker, he constantly looked and spoke as if he were either on the verge of tears or falling asleep. As Spidey, he lacked any of the humor and playful banter that defines the character. Plus he's a little nuggety guy and has the wrong physicality for the role.
>>
>>85944873
>Maguire wasn't convincing as Parker
Oh no! It's retarded!

All these people's first spider-man was raimi's and they probably all saw it when they were 10-15 years old so it's sacred to them. They all think Peter is supposed to always be a sad mopey beta /r9k/ poster even after the spider bite.

Reminder: Fidelity to a CHARACTER does not inherently make a MOVIE good. There's a certain line you shouldn't cross when adapting a work, though people get too obsessed with "it's not exactly like it was in the source material."
>>
>>85945218
As someone who doesn't read comic books, Tobey made sense as the nerdy kid, and the sadness was understandable given he felt responsible for his uncle's death. Whether they were faithful to the comics or not, I think they did a good job with the character.
>>
>>85945542

Reminder: Failing to capture the essence of what makes people like the characters means an adaptation is shit

Top 5? Haha no. Not even close. I'll name 10 just off the top of my head that are better.

1) Heat Legend as the Joker
2) Jack Nicholson as the Joker
2) Alfred Molina as Doc Ock
3) Terrence Stamp as Zod
4) Ian McKellen as Magneto
5) Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor
6) Samuel L. Jackson as Mr. Glass
7) Luke Goss as Prince Nuada
8) Jason Lee as Syndrome
9) Brian Cox as Willaim Stryker
10) Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman
>>
>>85946424
I think that warehouse wall Tobey held up in that same movie was a better gauge for his strength. By then he was much older (18-20) and experienced. Garfield's Spider-Man (16-18) would throw police cars like nothing and Holland's Spider-Man (15) caught a car and held that passenger jet boarding bridge.

Kilgrave from Jessica Jones and Punisher from Daredevil are better as well, if we're including the MCU TV shows.

Obadiah Stane (Iron Man)
Kaecilius (Dr Strange)

the Villains are easily the worst thing about MCU, though.

I haven't read comics since I was a kid. Which means the comic Spiderman I remember quipped a lot in fights but had a personal life full of melodrama and introspection. Hell, one issue was almost nothing but Spidey and MJ commiserating over her awful childhood.

Maybe late 90's spidey was different. I wouldn't know.
>>
>>85945769
The most recent Spiderman costume uses a design that only looks good in motion. Given that this is a motion picture and not a comic, it could be argued this isn't a sin.
>>
>>85948069
That's Michelle Jones, a brand new character. Neither Gwen nor Mary Jane are in the movie, probably because they've already been in the previous movies and they didn't want to repeat it too much.

The quips in Raimi's Spider-Man were rare. They were never used for the purpose of make the audience laugh every minute to ignore bad characters or storytelling. They are also never used when Spider-Man is focusing during combat, such as when Aunt May is grabbed by Doc Ock.
