>>
Working on my first draft of a feature film screenplay, after finishing the outline and treatment.
It's about a headstrong JISD agent who is pulled back into the field to investigate the source of a series of cataclysmic cyber attacks which have crippled the NATO missile defense system. However, she begins to learn that these attacks may be more personal to her than initially believed.
>>
I really do wish these kinds of threads had enough constant interest to warrant a general. It's ridiculous that we have letterboxd general and not a general dedicated to actual film production.
>>
>>85942665
This is 4chan, anon. It's hardly surprising.
>>
In Italy, there's a shrine for St. Anthony. He's the patron saint of lost things. People go to this shrine and pin up pictures of things they've lost - family members, loved ones, relationships, children. Kind of as a testament to them.

I'm writing a script about a sort of spiritual journey a man takes to place a picture on this shrine.

It's a pretty simple story but I think it will be a very effective and intimate look at faith and grief.
>>
>>85942665
/swg/ used to be a major feature of /tv/. Go on and check the archives. There was a major shift around 2008 (coincidentally when Iron Man was released) and it's gotten worse since then.

I made the first /swg/ thread on /tv/ and it lasted for 9 days. /tv/ will never be that sweet again.
>>
>>85941272
I have a few feature scripts that all need revising, so I'm gonna work on that before starting anything new writing-wise. Also have a music video in the works, planning to shoot next month

>>
>>85942776
I can't do stories about faith. In my opinion, you can't do it without it venturing into bad melodrama and cringey territory.
>>
>>85943043
It's by a friend's band, they have a potential platform to get their music video a lot of views. I'm literally doing it for exposure, but that's because I know there's an actual chance of getting that exposure and I'm the one pushing to get it shot
>>

>Do you write around the limits of locations?
Yes. That's really your only option, if you don't have lots of options for sets. But, there's a lot that a silver tongue can get you, that you'd be surprised about. But, generally, barring that, you will have to write around your limitations until you start getting enough funding to pay for set designers and scouts.

You could look at other films, and try to copy the kind of shots that they use, just so you become familiar with some elements of composition. There's a lot to cover for someone who's completely new. Try google first.

Pro tip, connections are made, and money is earned. Very few people are born with them. Those that do, have them because their parents did that before them.
Fuck off back to /r/athiesm with your nihilism fueled superiority complex. Not everyone has as weak a spine as you, some of us actually have the will and the way to work for what we want.

What is that supposed to mean? The anon I was replying too is very obviously new to film making. There's a lot of things like composition, lighting, choreography, etc, that he needs to learn, that isn't worth putting in a 4chan post when others have put it better online.

Animus, a short science fiction film about scientists fighting over the results of a test.

I learned more about lighting and composition, and learned to do more pre-vis beforehand. Though, it also tought me a serious lesson about set design, and to work with a set in mind if you're on a low budget. Trying to create a science lab on a low budget is... not fun.

What if halfway through writing a script you realise you have such a specific style of shoot in mind you'd have to direct it yourself.
A script you can just send off and pray it's good enough to get noticed, but how do you direct for the first time?
>>
>>85946683
Let's say I'm a smart guy and I can pretty much design the whole scenes in my mind but technically, I know close to nothing and I really fear making a movie since it will look like dog poop. How can I catch something like a Tarkovsky shot? Not a movie, just a shot with that natural look.Is it just the camera and lighting? Also more advices would be welcomed, i know you want to mentor someone.
>>
>>85946748
This is pretty bad, I can do much better than that with zero effort. Thanks for giving me relief, anon.
>>
>>85946803
>how do you direct for the first time?
By directing something simple. If you think it's a project that only you can shoot, hold onto it until you have the funds and experience.
By the way, you're pretty much never going to get anything made by "sending it in".
>>
>>85946803
You probably won't be able to catch what's in your mind.
>>
Yesterday I wrote an 8 page screenplay for (I guess) a short horror flick. Not sure what to do with it especially since it's only 8 pages.
>>
>>85946879
Yeah yeah I know everyone here knows though, don't need to specify.
How would someone get a small low budget/homemade movie noticed though?
>>
>>85946999
Now make it. A script is a blueprint.
>>
>>85947020
Film festivals. Unlike screenwriting contests, Film Festivals will actually get you noticed, because it shows not only can you complete a whole film, but complete a good one. Plus, more directors attend festivals they've submitted to personally, so it's an absolutely great way to make connections and even get jobs. I got a couple PA jobs from going to festivals when I was young.
>>

Storyboard it. Make a shotlist. Get some actors. Make it.
>>
>>85947115
Let me elaborate. I have no interest in filming videos. I don't even have a camera.
>>
>>85947102
>No budget, no actors
wrong
there are a huge amount of actors out there that will work for free, on the off chance they get exposure and the opportunity to work for money in the future. If you have money to buy lunch for a half dozen people for a day, you can make a movie. At 8 pages you're probably looking at about 8 hours of shooting. No problemo.
>>
>>85947102
Cobble a budget together. Find actors. Why even care about it getting made if you don't want to put in the effort to do it?
>>
>>85947154
Find someone else to shoot it for you. You'd still have to fund the production, probably, but you can find cameramen who do this stuff online for cheap.
>inb4 I also have no interest in directing
Then expand it into 80 pages, or send it into a screenwriting contest, dipshit. Then start working on something better.
>>
>>85947154
This makes no sense. Why do you want it to be made then? Why not just be happy you have a script you wrote?
>>
>>85947076

So was it for a show or a movie? How'd you learn to write at that level?
>>
>>85953393

Just a thirty minute sitcom.

I've honestly never written that much before, but there's a bunch of rough drafts on there that you can read to get an idea of what they're looking for.

I just sort of followed the structure and just read and watched a lot of tutorials for how to fine tune it.
>>
>>85954119
So you wrote thirty pages and an outline (for the rest of the season?) and got $10k for it? That's pretty good.
>>
>>85954244

This was over a year ago. The guidelines haven't changed much. The requirements were just a pilot and a rough outline for the rest of the season.

I've heard people get rejected a lot, but I submitted and was read within a month and got optioned. Really wish I knew what they're doing with it.
>>
>>85954330
I don't know a lot about it, but from what I've read a lot of scripts don't end up getting made and some can take years for anything to happen to them.
>>
>>85954412

I hope Amazon is still making shit by then. It's not something I'm terribly attached to since I wrote it in a few weeks, but it would be nice to know.

I should focus and try to get a movie optioned instead. Seems like they're pushing that a lot harder than their TV production.

A lot of people look down on Amazon Studios, but where else is a complete nobody getting the kinds of chances they're putting out?

I posted this on /p/ so I might as well post it here.
I used to lurk these generals a while ago to dump links and books to anyone interested. But the generals stopped and I had to put those links somewhere where other people could see.
So I made a pastebin compiling them, and I think some of you might be interested in it. It's a dump of links and books related to all aspects of filmmaking, and some answers to basic questions like "should I go to film school" or "do I need expensive equipment". I added this >>85941288 to it as well and if anyone makes suggestions on what I can improve I'll add more.

Right now I'm working on like 3 different ideas.

Idea 1: Zombie movie, haven't gotten that much in because zombie movies are so common that coming up with an original idea that's good is hard.

Idea 2: Black comedy buddy cop movie where two best friend cops are looking for a serial killer. Serial killer is seen to have a every elaborate plan on how he picks he's victim, but near the end of the movie, the cops figure out that he's just being killing people for the most petty reasons, cutting him off while driving, not saying bless you when he sneezed, ect.

Idea 3: Another Black Comedy about 2 guys kidnapping the daughter of a powerful company for ransom as payback after he did them wrong. Since they have no real problems with the daughter, they don't harm her and allow her do her own thing just as long as she doesn't try to signal for help. Daughter doesn't really like her father, so she decides to play along with it in exchange for money from the ransom, but they end up getting too deep in to the kidnapping that another gang ends up kidnapping the girl from the MCs and is put into real danger.

I've got no idea how to add something extra to my script, its 2 pages shot to be uploaded on Amazon Studios and overall i hear the dialogue is awful (albeit i love it cheesy).
Here's 3 page synopsis.

Well, if you cannot provide a plaintext version then you will not receive my review. This is the end of it. I will not consider reviewing your script anymore from this point forward, whether you provide plaintext or not.
