It's pretty great up until you want to do something actually important.
All the Culture offers is pointless distraction and hedonism until you grow bored of even that and choose to die.

The most interesting thing that could happen is if a Mind finds you useful for some Byzantine plot its hatching and uses you like tool.
Assuming that you weren't created for that purpose anyways.

>plus dumb psuedointellectual middle-class liberal shit like DUDE WHAT IF JESUS WHAS A BUDDHIST
It is agreed by most scholars that Buddhism was known in the pre-Christian Greek world through the campaigns of Alexander the Great (see Greco-Buddhism and Greco-Buddhist monasticism), and several prominent early Christian fathers (Clement of Alexandria and St. Jerome) were certainly aware of the Buddha, even mentioning him in their works.[1][2] However, the majority of modern scholars who have studied both Buddhism and Christianity hold that there is no direct historical evidence of any influence by Buddhism on early Christianity.[3][4][5] Scholars generally consider any such influence implausible given that first century Jews are highly unlikely to have been open to far eastern concepts that appeared opposed to some of their basic beliefs.[6]

Some historians such as Jerry H. Bentley and Elaine Pagels suggest that there is a possibility that Buddhism influenced the early development of Christianity".[7]

The script was exactly what was portrayed, a conversation in a living room.

yes, and that meta-script is fucking awful

there is honestly very little good sci fi. most of the good sci fi is well known big stuff... generally, B movie sci fi is unenjoyably bad. good sci fi needs to be clever and unfortunately most of it isn't.

But are they really? I think the suggestion is that Contact and SC don't really agree on this point and represent not just different levels of glamour but different schools of thought. Its the liberal interventionism debate.

interstellar provided you watch it in a language you don't understand, music and visuals are amazing, everything you do understand by merely watching what happens is fine, anything that is expressed with words is retarded.

The four Gospels were written starting about 40 years after Jesus' death over the span of a century. Their authors were converts that made the conscious decision to "break bread with Gentiles", or open up the traditionally closed Jewish attitude towards conversion. In fact, the original New Testament was written, not in Aramaic, but in Greek. As a result, many of the ideas that percolated Greek language, mysticism, and philosophy entered the semantic structure of the Bible simply because when you write in a language, you accept the logical and definitional premises contained in the words you use. If the Buddha has known in the pre-Christian Greek world, and the westward spread of Manichaeism had imported ideas about divinity that were Vedic in origin, they would almost certainly have filtered into Biblical thought.

tl;dr Jesus didn't copy the Buddha, the people who wrote about him did.

You'd do an extremely visceral, close-in vantage point that switches between several views of Fedmahn. His breathing, heartbeat, and the sound of superconductors in his technological gear would be magnified to fill the silence, and the camera would be zoomed in on his face, his hands, with interspersed shots of the desert. The result would be deliberately claustrophobic and would show the sense of both isolation and predation that a sniper battle always evokes.

Instead of showing the sonar and radar and infrared sweeps like some sort of garish technicolor display, use sound and motion to convey Fedmahn's heightened senses. It would be more exciting to watch his body language than to watch a flurry of targeting screens over and over. Then, when the special effects do appear, they aren't laughable or ridiculous, because the viewer has been anticipating what Kassad is seeing for over a minute and will be impressed.
