The only thing "Red Dragon, " has going for it, was a fleshed out Dolarhyde. Manhunter is a visual masterpiece, it also doesn't exploit good 'ol Hannibal. Norton ' s Graham was unimpressive as well.
Wait was Hopkins even in Red dragon?

2 scenes I think.
Its the only reason they remade it for the sake of cashing in on Hopkins

You forgot that forced connection to SOTL
>>85939395
What forced connection? The Red Dragon book came out before SOTL book

last scene of the film is guard saying to Lector 'a woman is here to see you from the FBI'

Gotta give it to Manhunter.

Meanwhile, Hannibal was perfect, with perfect cinematography and much better characterization.
Manhunter, no question:

Francis Dollarhyde did nothing wrong.
Manhunter
This isn't even a fair fight, c'mon.
Manhunter by a country mile. It's not even a contest.
Hopkins as Lector in Red Dragon is like a cartoon character compared to his other portrayals.

It did it better than one of them. Whether it did it better than the other is debatable.
Was Francis our guy?

>finally watch Manhunter
>get to the Freddie Lounds scene and Francis never reveals his tattoo
What the fuck? Is that famous picture from the movie just a production still or something? Or is there some other version out there?

those were concept pieces, Mann decided not to use the tattoo in the end. There's a video about Noonan talking about it somewhere. I don't care to look it up right now, but it's probably easy to find.

Which cut of Manhunter is the best or most fulfilling to watch?

Best Will Graham.

This. Manhunter is probably one of the best police investigation thrillers ever made, Red Dragon is a lame cash in.
Most people seem to think that Brian Cox did a bag job as Hannibal because "muh Hopkins," but his portrayal was insanely accurate to the book. In Red Dragon, he's not a supervillian samurai with expert manipulation powers, he's a pissed off serial killer who shows up to carry out petty acts of revenge at the man who easily caught him.
