What the fuck did you just fucking say about autism? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in Warder school, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on the Blight, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top swordsman in the entire Whitecloak armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the standing weaves? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of Inquisitors across Randland and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Children of the Light and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, darkfriendo.

Goodkind has some truly magical prose.
> "No war! No war! No war!" the people shouted as Richard led the men up the street at a dead run.
>"Out of the way!" Richard yelled as he closed the distance. This was no time for subtlety or discussions: the success of their attack depended in large part on speed. "Get out of the way! This is your only warning! Get out of the way or die!"
>"Stop the hate! Stop the hate!" the people chanted as they locked arms.
>They had no idea how much hate was raging through Richard. He drew the Sword of Truth. The wrath of its magic didn't come out with it, but he had enough of his own. He slowed to a trot.
>"Move!" Richard called as he bore down on the people.
>A plump, curly-haired woman took a step out from the others. Her round face was red with anger as she screamed. "Stop the hate! No war! Stop the hate! No war!"
>"Move or die!" Richard yelled as he picked up speed.
>The red-faced woman shook her fleshy fist at Richard and his men, leading an angry chant. "Murderers! Murderers! Murderers!"
>On his way past her, gritting his teeth as he screamed with the fury of the attack begun, Richard took a powerful swing, lopping off the woman's head and upraised arm. Strings of blood and gore splashed across the faces behind her even as some still chanted their empty words. The head and loose arm tumbled through the crowd. A man mad the mistake of reaching for Richard's weapon, and took the full weight of a charging thrust.
>Men behind Richard hit the line of evil's guardians with unrestrained violence. People armed only with their hatred for moral clarity fell bloodied, terribly injured, and dead. The line of people collapsed before the merciless charge. Some of the people, screaming their contempt, used their fists to attack Richard's men. They were met with swift and deadly steel.

nah, Galad is pure
Galad has golden-red heir like Rand (same mother)
Galad is a pretty tall prince
Galad almost managed to tire/scratch Demandred in 1v1 duelling, making him easily into top 5 of all swordsmen
Galad was raised better than any of his half-siblings (spoiled brats Elayne and Gawyn)
Galad starts a minor war in Ghealdan just so that his sister can board a boat, carving a bloody path through the zealous masses without getting a shed of blood on his shining white armour
Galad salvages what can be salvaged of the Children of the Light and actually leads them to the final fight against Darkness
Galad can summon the Void with ease, hinting that he may end up as a strong channeler (share genetic material from shared mother as Rand, might become one of the strongest male channelers alive)

Galad ends up with perfect beauty Berelain

and the only reason why Elayne disliked Galad was because he was too "perfect", too honest and incapable of wrong-doing

desu, Jordan might have taken some characters too much to the extreme of purity and goodness

If you mean Jagang he actually did make some appearances earlier in the series, raping nuns in their dreams or something. I assume Goodkind wanted to set up the character so that he wouldn't just appear out of nowhere.

was just looking up the chimes and found this clusterfuck
>At first, Kahlan and Richard didn't know of the Chimes and were tricked by Zedd into believing it was a being called the Lurk. This was done so that Richard would travel to the Wizard's Keep without protest where he would be protected since the Chimes can't harm anyone close enough to the place where they were summoned, in this case the Wizards' Keep. This lie was additionally argumented by the fact that Kahlan would have to be Richard's third wife to be able to summon the Chimes. But, the arrival of Du Chaillu, Richard's first wife who he had forgotten and discarded since it was an involuntary marriage, caused the pair to doubt Zedd and travel to Anderith instead, while Cara travelled alone to the Wizards' Keep to get the Sword of Truth and do what Zedd said would stop the imaginary Lurk.
Its a shame because i really liked the first two books
>>
>>85954467
>>85954559
Yeah, I guess that started in 5. I felt the same way about the series. Contrived bullshit that was only getting worse and worse. I don't know how I made it as far as I did.

And apparently these books are still fucking going. If it was already bad in book 3 I shudder to think how much worse it has gotten.
>>
>>85944002
This actually makes me want to read the books.
>>
>>85931809
Also I'm glad someone mentioned this. Goodkind really does love to waste pages and pages summarizing the previous books, as if someone would just jump in on that book without reading the other ones.

Overall if this isn't on Netflix or HBO it will suck, but they'll probably make the women even more insufferable regardless and make the Aiel niggers and probably Perrin too for good measure, maybe Rand will be bisexual and Min is actually a boy and not a tomboy.
>>
>>85954807
That sort of thing really bothered me as a child but now as an adult I appreciate it. I don't read a bunch of fantasy novels back to back like I did, and my memory isn't what it used to be.

When reading the next book in a series after a break it's nice to have a recap.

yes there is no difference between the Terrys and and jordan.
>>
>>85955040
i would prefer a short summary of the series in the appendix for anyone interested rather than reintroducing every character and concept with each book
it gets annoying
>>
>>85955411
I remember Temple of the Winds doing it in a particularly stupid way where Kahlan literally sat some new character down and told her the entire story thus far without any interruptions or discussion, as if anyone would actually talk like that. And then that character ended up killing herself later anyway so I'm sure that gives a neat excuse to find someone else to summarize it to.

Although one thing I can say for Goodkind, at least he actually finishes his books. Meanwhile you have GRRM who has a highly successful TV adaptation going on for literally years and can't even finish two more books. Sword of Truth books are approximately the same length as ASoIaF so it's not like that's an excuse either.

>>85957313

All of the
>and suddenly all of these super lost talents have been rediscovered
thanks to the ta'veren-ness of the main characters is kind of a nice way to explain that shit in these fantasy books. The magical spacetime fabric that the wheel weaves is dictating prophecy in real time. Like it's not even just a metaphysical concept but reality, same with how balefire literally burns away the threads of time.
>>
>>85955740
No. Real-world cultures, races, nations, fashion, warfare styles, etc were intentionally put into a blender by the author. Making the nation you feel most resembles a real world one that real world one is missing the point entirely.
>>
>>85956833
I liked Cadsuane. Pre-Sanderson Cadsuane is nearly my favorite character. Also, fans hated Cadsuane for stalling the plot when book 7 was released, so she isn't guilty of that.
>>

Yeah. All he wanted was for his horny mother to get some and give Mat basically free reign to possibly become his stepdad. She may have had her pets before Mat, but there's no way she'd pass up that chance to claim him as consort. Altara strikes me as femdom central of Randland.
>>
>>85957701
>Remember that time Rand murdered a merchant without warning?
Yes. Okay, so he has spidey senses or whatever and detected the gray man. But after killing all of them for saying hello to him did he really have to use the power to manipulate their headless bodies to bow down to him?

>>85957701
Lets be fair though. The Wheel of Time is all about balance. The Ying Yang is basically the symbol of Aes Sedai. And it's a recurring theme that for every evil there must be a good and for every good thing there must be an evil. So because the evil side has the most humongous fucking advantage possible the Pattern itself makes sure to give the good side ALL the asspulls in the form of three of the strongest wielders of plot armor to ever exist to even things out. It's cheap, but at least it works. In a way.
>>
>Sony Pictures Television

>get all the way to book 12 (13?)

And I'll never ever read it. WoT is just like the Sword of Truth series. The worst kind of high fantasy, that barely passes for more than a cash grab.

Always some grand enemy with some grand plan they've been hatching for thousands of years that the MC will solve in a book or two, right before the next world ending threat appears.

Bonus points for every side character that is a lot more interesting than the MC.

If you read a few wikipedia articles between my sentences, you can even simulate reading WoT.

The village was entirely peaceful. They didn't believe in violence and any radicals who were violent were banished from the village. This turned into them getting taken over the by Imperial Order (the generic laughable bad guys). iirc it's never actually explained why this is a bad thing, the order wasn't actually mistreating them. So Richard was just mad the village liked the order better than a crazy man yelling at them that they need to murder people.

Also this was at the time he was extra angry because he wasn't eating meat to balance out his killing, or something

Magic also told him how to brew a cure to the poison he has never heard of

That first fight was fantastic though. Nynaeve spends a couple of paragraphs freaking out about how she's about to get crushed by Moghedien once she Forsaken is ready to end her, and how she's imagining all the ways she'll be tortured, and then suddenly notices the strain in Moghedien's face, which tells her that she's matching her strength for strength.

>>
>>85957446
Look at her personality from another point of view: the whole time, for the entire series, she isn't in it to be Aes Sedai (though she'd like to), or to try and control Rand, or anything to that extent. She's there to protect the village boy from Emond's Field, and to help him however she can. If she has to give up being Aes Sedai to help him, or to save Lan, she'd do it in a heartbeat.

She helps Rand cleanse saidin, she is one of the two women who go with him into Shayol Ghul itself. Not Aviendha, not Elayne. Because he asks Nynaeve, because he trusts her, and knows her. She even says that she would go to Shayol Ghul to help him even if he didn't ask, because her overriding purpose within the story is to help him. It's even in her name, and Jordan's re-use of mythology, because if Rand is Arthur drawing Callandor/Caliburn from the Stone, Nynaeve is the Lady of the Lake (helps that she marries Lan, who is the uncrowned king of Malkier and Lord of the Lakes, making her Lady of the Lakes). She doesn't ever say a fucking word about the cleansing or Shayol Ghul to anybody. News does get out of what she winds up doing, yes, but she never encourages it, basks in it, or gets prideful over it. People would have built statues to her and practically worshipped her if they'd known, and she stayed quiet.

And there was that complete verbal beatdown she gave the White Tower after she was tested. That was solid too.

Nynaeve is definitely best girl. Also Moiraine, honourable mention to Min.

In context, it was "justified" because they were in his way to an objective he desperately needed to get to, but that was only a thin excuse for Goodkind to get some pathetic revenge on opinions he doesn't like, and those who hold them.
The only reason he included them in the book was so his self insert could kill them. They serve absolutely no purpose outside it, and the character has absolutely no moral qualms with mercilessly butchering them. People that aren't psychopaths tend to have issues with that sort of thing, even if they disagree with them politically.
It's the literary form of those tumblr revenge fantasy comics that get posted every so often.

>"Ah. I see the child has refused her meal. Sarene, release your weaves."
>Cadsuane grabbed Semirhage by the hair and, with a casual sweep of her foot, knocked the woman's legs out from beneath her, dropping her to the floor.
>Perhaps she could have used the Power, but it felt right to use her hands for this. She prepared a few weaves, though she probably wouldn't need them. Semirhage, though tall, was a woman of willowy build, and Cadsuane herself had always been more stout than she was slim. Plus, the Forsaken seemed utterly dumbfounded at how she was being treated.
>Cadsuane knelt down with one knee on the woman's back, then shoved her face forward into th spilled food. "Eat, she said. "I don't approve of wasted food, particularly in these times." [...] "Are you going to eat?"
>"I will kill you," Semirhage said. "First, before all the others. i will make them listent o you scream."
>"I see. Sarene, fetch the Sisters outside. And some maids on the other side of the hall as well."
>As they entered, Cadsuane used her threads of Air to turn Semirhage around across her knee. And then she proceeded to spank the Forsaken.
>Semirhage held out at first. Then she began to curse. Then she began to sputter out threats. Cadsuane continued, her hand beginning to hurt. Semirhage's threats turned to howls of outrage and pain. The serving girl with the food returned int he middle of it, adding even more to her shame.
>"Now, will you eat?"
>"I'll find everyone you've ever loved, I'll feed them to each other while you watch-"
>Cadsuane tsk'd and began again. The crowd watched in amazed silence as Semirhage began to cry, not from the pain, but the humiliation. That was the key.

Balefire deletes, Flame appears to create new "stuff" from the One Power, although Egwene can only do crystal. Appropriate, since crystal refracts light, and when Rand reweaves the prison, it's mentioned that he uses the Power in its purest form, light.

The stuff inside them, like Egwene, Taim, the sa'angreal, are probably still down there, but the crystal might be difficult to break through.

For reference, Perrin spanked Faile similarly in book 4.

No, she's dead. She dies, Rand feels her die, she even speaks to him as her spirit/soul is crossing over to wherever it goes.
>>
>>85963463
Not that the writing doesn't betray him, but Sanderson admitted to being forced to write that particular scene against his own inclinations.
>>
>>85963523
So her corpse is just preserved in a crystal tomb forever? That doesn't seem like the opposite of balefire
>>
>>85963543
Really? Hah. Well, Jordan's fetish shining through then.
>>
>>85963573
Balefire destroys the pattern, Flame heals it. The crystal is some kind of side-effect.
>>
next time I reread WoT I'm going to count and list every useless plot thread that either goes nowhere, or gets hastily wrapped up in the last book in a disappointing way.
>>
>>85963634
Specifically, the crystal is a side-effect that creates something from nothing/the One Power to fill the holes that balefire causes, as seen when balefire overuse causes cracks in the ground that lead to nothingness, and the crystal fills those cracks when employed as a counter-weave.
>>
Do you think Harriet fucked Brandon Sanderson?
>>
a lot of the reason why the women in WoT are so disliked by many are that they're strong willed characters and the beta shits that tend to spend all their time in 4chan prefer timid little girls that subjugate to them and pose no threat to their already lacking masculinity

In fairness, when Aviendha hears about that, she tells Elayne she was being a rude cunt in not so many words and that Elayne has to go apologise. Aiel and the Wise Ones in general work far better than the White Tower.

Except for sending their male channelers straight into dreadlord school instead of executing them
>>
>>85964000
oh come on, that was definently not their fault, its the best possible solution given the info they have, i'd rather do that if I didn't know what was really going down in the blight, might as well go nuclear in the dark ones stronghold then in your own tribe

They didn't know that was what they were doing, and they were horrified as soon as they realised it. They thought the men just died up in the Blight, an easy assumption to make considering their channeling abilities would have been pathetically infinitesimal.

They do work better than the White Tower.

The White Tower has been dwindling in numbers for the past two thousand years, have LOST more information than they retained even counting the Breaking, are implicated in establishing false Dragons that they can then bring down, and their relentless removal of the ability to channel from men by the Red Ajah specifically (that whole Ajah doesn't make sense, they don't bond Warders yet they're the ones who alongside the Green should absolutely have Warders because of what they do) has in fact resulted in the overall percentage of the population able to channel or learn to channel dropping by 66%, and the number of trained channelers dropping by probably upwards of 80% (which it takes Egwene and Rand allowing any age to begin training for men and women to begin fixing).

While this was happening, the Black Ajah grew within their own ranks while they were blind to the problems they were causing, and they completely lost the sense of being "Servants of All" in favour of removing themselves from the world to pontificate and navel gaze.

Men going mad might have fucked the world, but the White Tower was the thing that raped its corpse.
>>
>>85965108
Oh, and the Black Ajah were also a large portion of the Dreadlords at the Last Battle, along with the forcibly turned Asha'man. The latter is Rand's fault, really, but the former is absolutely on the White Tower.

Especially considering they should have put serious thought into their Three Oaths (also, lolbinder, they're using a tool intended for criminals that halves their age) considering that said oaths should have blocked the Black Ajah, yet there are holes in them you could march an army through.
