At the end of last season, he hooks up with the Tree-net for the first time since becoming the 3ER. Frog asks him if he'll be okay, and Bran says he'll have to be.
Presumably having unrestricted access to the history of the world gave him autism, but it was still a jarring change because hooking up to the tree didn't feel like a big of significant moment. They really should've shown him revisiting the memories he'd been to already, and then found some way to visualize the endless expanse of things to visit and see, and show him overwhelmed by it all.
As it stands, it feels jarring even if you understand the reason for the change.

Bran's story as a whole is pretty shit, made worse by how little screen time he got in some seasons.

He spent a lot of time in that cave with his friends and the Raven. Never was there a mention of him becoming autistic or dissociating with those around him. He was still clearly "Bran" when they fled and during the trip to the wall.

Just as with Arya, D&D need some excuse to not allow their OP powers to seep into the rest of the plot, but killing either off after the time dedicated to having them fuck around would be too much of a waste so they're stuck.

Yep, they completely skipped the whole appeal of the character and plot line. Bran doesn't get the scene that his character's about and the weirnet is functionally not featured in the show except as Bran sitting next to a tree when he talks. All that's left with Bran is for him to tell some obvious secrets and then stick around doing nothing in winterfell. It's like the lay wrote him out of the show.

To me it is kind of obvious that GRRM is writing his books toward some EoE mindfuck ending because there is a lot of elements of the story that are VERY supernatural converging into a final clash.
Bran is one of those elements.

But in the show they're still trying to play up the "fighting for the throne" aspect of the narrative which makes Bran just a sideshow curiosity.
