People say it's "comfy" because you can lose yourself in it. But that is only because it drags itself out for way too long and that also just means you want to escape from your own world so badly that you accept everything in order to do so.
Its length is not its strength, some people argue otherwise. But they're the kind of people that don't want the episode to ever end as it'd mean that they'd return to their normal lives.

In any case, the show is mediocre. Fucked up continuity.
It should be seen as a modern Twilight Zone and never as something that can be watched for its "alien arc" because it's not very consistent and at times feels like a bad soap-opera.
Just watching some interesting episodes is good enough.
And you can get sucked in by the show, but will likely be severely disappointed. I'd recommend it in any case, I liked it. It just can be really fucking boring.

X-Files nostalgia always makes me wish for SCP to get adapted into a TV series.
