It shouldn't because the US airforce was HEAVILY INVOLVED in the show.

When I say heavily, I mean they fucking pulled strings to get the show an actual fucking submarine.

IIRC its very accurate in terms of military outfitting and regime/relationships post season 1.

Apart from the P-90, which they chose purely for looks (how the casings shot out) and because they were easy as fuck to reload.

You know who they've tried (and failed) to make a Stargate video game for years?
Well would you be interest if they made a shooter game, set on earth in the 80/90's, that seemingly has no connection to Stargate, except for the fact that you're playing as a young O'Neill, as he goes on some of the missions that he mentioned during the show, like the one from the Gamekeeper where things went tits up, or the one where he got left behind in Iraq and spent 4 months in prison.

>Is it ever explained why the fuck Air Force guys are on this (from what I gather) infantry team?

Because Stargate was Air Force project and they have their own special operations light infantry outfit for combat search and rescue operations.

>Or why they dont wear regular BDUs?

To make 'em different from regular dudes with BDUs all over the place. Easy way to make main cast and important side characters stand out of the crowd in scenes where there are more extras than usual.

>Or those mesh tactical vests instead of some form of armor?

Kevlar doesn't necessarily do anything to whatever particle guns Goa'uld are using. Also bodyarmor weights and is sweaty as it doesn't breathe, don't underestimate how hot things can get under filming lights and shieet.

>>85875093
>It shouldn't because the US airforce was HEAVILY INVOLVED in the show.

They shot the show mostly in Canada, but got fans in high places or something. Also show started before military recruitment got boost due to patriotism following 9/11 and economy was running fine. So publicity worked for military recruitment goals. That is the very reason why military cooperates with any media that gives them positive publicity.

>Apart from the P-90, which they chose purely for looks (how the casings shot out) and because they were easy as fuck to reload.

IIRC it also had something to do with Canuck weapons laws. P-90 and it's semi-auto versions are obscure enough not to trigger Canadian ban list and as those have lot of plastic, so airsoft guns look good enough as props on background and in situations where armorer and stunt coordinator aren't on set. Futuristic look is bonus.

>deliberately circumventing
"Deliberately" implies they knew what they were circumventing in the first place. They were just setting up a system around dialing one gate. They didn't even know there was a network until the start of SG-1.
>>
>>85879344
yea their computer would pick up errors and sometimes they'd just over ride them and dial anyway, mckay say their is about 450 potential failsafes in a normal dhd, and the SGCs dialer only accounts for about 200, they know theirs errors and they intentionally override them to get a lock, sometimes with disastrous results, see 'Red Sky'
>>
>>85879344
>"Deliberately" implies they knew what they were circumventing in the first place.
No it doesn't. They chose to ignore the errors. Hence 'deliberately'.

All I'm saying is, I don't think you can call something deliberate if you're completely ignorant of the ramifications. Even in modern day law we accept that driving under the influence is a deliberate act, but in most cases if you kill someone in a drunk driving accident it's considered manslaughter because you weren't aware that your actions would cause that particular accident.
>>

>>
>>85881108
Like I said before, the dialing computer was only meant to do one thing, Dial. They had no clue there was a network security system they should've been plugged into. And it only saved them like twice during the whole run. Hell, the show itself was probably barely aware of the idea of "network updates" when it started.
>>
>>85881213
ok bud w/e u say
>>
>>85881220
yes and it picked up on the various error codes the gate would send out, over time the system improved and they stopped ignoring important warnings from the gate, like I said mckay offered to update it and Sam got butthurt and refused, it was a 1/2 ass dhd basically but that did save them a couple times
>>
>>85881350
I think they just got lucky thanks to plot armor, and realistically Carter would've been happier to have just plugged into the dhd system. That's with hindsight though, admittedly.
>>
>>85877292
5.56 would have far superior penetration in every case though. Especially with penetrator ammunition and the supply lines already outfitted for 5.56 ammo and ARs, not to mention mag pouches and magazines and weapon attatchments, and the fact that every person with combat experience would be far more familiar with that platform thab a special snowflake PDW that takes special ammo and magazines that the Air Force hasnt adopted and ia inferior in almost every aspect other than close quarters, of which we are not lacking either.
All that said I like the P90 choice for muh SciFi and being at least a real weapon instead of having some californian gun hating artist draw what they think an assault rifle should look like in the future and have it look like it came out of Fo4. And like I said, ARs get old after a while in media.
>>
>>85877172

This. You are part of SG-729 or something, a 4 player team. You have a campaign with standard missions, but the real deal is the multiplayer where you can do the campaign in realistic (i.e. hardly a mistake allowed) but with 3 mates (i.e. the whole SG-team).

The icing on the cake would be to release mod tools and an API to let modders easily create new maps.
>>
>>85881500
>plugged into the dhd
once they realized what the dhd really did e.g. protect the gate and its passengers, they tried using an actual dhd but that thing blew up, if you think about it the logistics of getting another dhd to earth would have been really complicated, and they don't have the control over it that the dialing computer gave them, it may have been dangerous at first but it gave them a lot more freedom
>>
>>85881618
you gate into a closed system of about a dozen worlds, some are controlled by the goold some by random civilizations one by you your goal is to dial home to earth but you need to gather info from the various worlds, build allies stop the goold etc
>>
>>85877870
>They weren't tho, the Jaffa freely acknowledge they were slaves from day one

And they're the stronger for freely acknowledging it.
>>
>>85881798
damn right
>>
>>85881630
>if you think about it the logistics of getting another dhd to earth would have been really complicated
What the hell were they doing on the Alpha Site?

If anything, the only "deliberate" thing they were doing was circumventing a security system put in place by a galactic superpower millions of years more advanced than them, and I still compare that to my earlier analogy of driving while impaired. It was reckless no matter how you slice it.
>>
>>85881900
yes it was reckless, thor approves, it was kinda dumb but in the end the reckless dialling of world they really shouldn't have gone to helped them in the end. I'm not saying they couldn't have gotten another dhd just the logistics of it would have been complicated, your depriving another world of one for a start and then you have to transport it back to earth on a ship, then hardwire it into the new gate, who knows if that'll work plus the whole better level of control with the dialing comp, it started of as a necessity in the end it was the right choice to keep using the computer instead of a dhd

>>
>>85882072
They could've done all that study on the Alpha Site, though. No dhd transport necessary.
>>
>>85882149
they mentioned studying dhd's a bunch, obviously that would have been a no1 priority and almost every world they go to has one so they've got plenty of opportunity, still in the end they decided on continuing to use the comp instead of trying to bring in a dhd from some other world, in at least Sams opinion it was the better option, i'm sure mckay and probably freyja would have disagreed

>i'm sure mckay and probably freyja would have disagreed

good

also I think the original cast hung on for one season too long, leaving not enough time to enjoy the farscape kids

I would watch Claudia Black watch paint dry though.

You'll never leave your basement so it's no harm if you don't believe me. You think it is "outdated" but they think it is "proven reliable." People who need equipment to work don't bank on Windows 10 or Debian Stable.
>>
>>85886043
Linux is used by far more industry people for it's reliability than DOS is, faggot.
Primarily because it can also be used for a variety of situations. Dos is pretty shit by modern standards.

No it is not obvious for everyone. I know for a fact you never even tried to learn another language than english. Some people translate this in their head into their own language and it is cofusing as fuck to read when you expect the sentence to end differently than you startet it. Also you still sound just retarded.
