So let me get this straight, the entire premise of this movie is that advanced human faring civilization doesn't have basic biological or hazmat containment protocols in place when ADVENTURING ON A FUCKING WEIRD UNKNOWN ALIEN WORLD. ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR MASKS OR SUITS GUYS.

Film was literally unwatchable from this point onwards.

David and his eggs could have been left on the planet and perhaps gotten off another way, he did have a working spaceship in the flashback.

Its still fairly unclear what planet the original Alien takes place on since there's so many candidates right now.

It gets even worse.

They find wheat and the entire crew basically throws out a couple of lines about it and don't ponder it any further.

Then they find an alien ship and after saying a couple of lines about it don't ponder it any further.

Then they find an entire alien city and kind of don't really think too hard about it.

Then they find a crazy android and they don't really think too hard about trusting him.

They just want to go back to the ship so they can continue their mission.

The whole thing is basically as if some rudimentary AI shat out an Alien script based on generic parameters
>>
>>85863887
Go talk to actual scientist.

A organism that didn't develop on earth has about zero chance of infecting us due to how our immune system responds.
>>
>>85864674
You mean the ship that he crashed that they stumble upon before finding the city?
>>
>>85865548

Don't be dense.

Any lifeform that can be inhaled and thrives in nutrient-rich environments can multiply inside you and fuck you up in various ways.

And that's ignoring various airborne toxic materials that might not be lifeforms at all.

Pockets of toxic gas or pathogens can be localized and impossible to detect just from the ship's immediate surroundings.

Not to mention that in the movie itself THEY STEP ON A BAD FUNGUS AND IT INFECTS THEM, you dimwit.

>>
>>85864088
So like

did the movie at least hint or offer a way to understand how he got those eggs? Cause people talk about a Queen all the time, but maybe he did it like the Alien cocoon in Alien 1?

What the fuck am I saying, right, chestbursters are now Xenomorph Mini-Me's from birth, lel
>>
>>85865641
toxins are another kettle of fish - those can fuck you up.

However actual pathogens - be viral, bacterial, fungal, or so on, has to have proteins that are close enough to the human norm to allow for infection. Alien life would be alien, and it would be like humans getting infected by a plant illness, which doesn't happen as we are too dissimilar.

The risks are if it produces a toxin, or if it causes such a strong immune response that your own immune system attacks healthy parts of the body.

The "Getting infected by alien pathogen" is a trope that is as old as science fiction. It is the major plot point for War of the Worlds after all. That said, the actual reality is that a alien life form would end up being too alien to infect you.
>>
>>85865641
>THEY STEP ON A BAD FUNGUS
It's not a fungus. It's an egg cluster. David says it to the cap'n right before the egg scene.

>the canisters atomize in the atmosphere releasing the eggs which instantly hatch
>the resulting creatures (the microscopic bugs) swarm in and attack everyone
>some people are turned into that liquid goo, some are fossilized, others mutate and some become incubators for and birth differing kinds of neomorphs
>>
>>85865726
Pathogens that infect humans come from species that are close to us - mammals mostly.

The chances that a alien species is going to be close genetically to humans is about nill.

But keep bitching about stuff you don't know about and sounding like a idiot who anyone who studies infectious illnesses as their life's work.

Infections could happen.
Some flora, like those native to australia, only bloom and grow when they're subjected to fire.
If a foreign body with the same properties were to hitch a ride on a meteorite and the resulting entry into earths atmosphere "activated" it (for lack of a better term) and it landed, spawned etc, it could lead to infections in species on earth.

I dont think thats how that works anon. Couldn't this also theoretically work in the opposite direction and the pathogen has an increased effect because our immune system may be weaker?
>>
This was the worst movie i've seen. It makes Prometheus look 'okay'.

There are so many logical gaps.

Why was there only a single person objecting to going to a completely unknown planet? Every one of these people are supposed to be screened for illogical behaviour. Every single person should have been put through tests that simulate crew deaths and the like.

The acting also felt way off even during the lead up to the first alien popping out.

Why was the black woman so fucking calm and stroking a dude who was twitching at 1000 miles an hour after being exposed to an unknown alien pathogen? Why did kate mara lock them both in like a fucking idiot?

>>85865908
I'm a doctor and whoever told you this shit was incredibly wrong or your layman understanding of it was incredibly off. Pathogens just need warmth and nutrients to want to grow inside you. Your body has mechanisms to fight that off. However, pathogens also tend to have mechanisms to circumvent that. Hell, some pathogens even killing it off can make you incredibly sick.

simple reasoning for this, the soldiers or any of them that go spacefaring are actually genetically engineered slightly to make the long periods of no-activity like hibernating and practically living in space bearable, these could also be the top people of their society
try to compare our astronauts to them but with slight modifications to make life in space easier etc...
>>

Its never made clear in Prometheus or Covenant but since 2,000 years passed between the first Engineer attempt at destroying Earth and the lone Engineer waking up to try again must have meant a cataclysm involving the black goo happened.

Most Engineers died out leaving only a single secluded city of semi-primitve/Mad Max level survivors that David wiped out.

or the simple reasoning is those engineers are just another experiment or just a colony

Look at the city, the only similar looking shit to anything we've seen before is the docking device. Prometheus specifically says the base/ship in that movie was remote with nothing around because it was for testing. It follows that if you found another isolated site, it could be a testing area too. Why would the Engineers exist only in one, pretty small city? Is their homeworld or entire civilization just a city and not planet wide? That shit makes no sense.

I thought having the two different types of Xenomorphs was an awful idea.

Firstly the Neomorphs seemed way more deadly than the traditional Xenomorphs, as they were easily able to infect people, gestated quickly, were dangerous from birth, and grew quickly as well. It seems to be implied that they aren't as intelligent as Xenomorphs, but to be honest with the rate at which they could potentially reproduce, who cares? Made David trying to 'perfect' them seem a fairly pointless endeavour.

I would have much preferred it if the Neomorphs weren't in the film at all. I think it would have worked much better if it was more creepy Gothic Mansion horror in space, with the protagonists exploring the devastated eerie planet before coming across David in the capital. They then could have had him creepily wander round refusing to directly answer questions on what happened. All of a sudden a Xenomorphs turns up and starts picking the crew off one by one. The rest of the film plays out pretty similarly. They could reveal still that David created the eggs by fucking about with the black goo, but he used Shaw as the host for the Xenomorph. Maybe he could think of it as like his and Shaw's daughter or something?

Like Prometheus it felt like there was the kernel of a good film in there but it just didn't really come together.

>>Two of the security mercs are gay lovers (briefly shown in a 15 second scene) where this has literally 0 consequence to the story or their characters before or after this one shoehorned scene

It's clearly stated that everyone on the ship is in a relationship with someone else. The fact that some of these relationships are homosexual has as much bearing on the plot as the heterosexual ones really.

>David confuses himself between Byron and Shelly because ???

They clearly explain this in the film. David had been alone on the planet for so long has neural pathways had started to degrade, he was effectively going mad, and the fact he was getting things incorrect he should have known proved that.

>Mother can't differentiate between walter or David

This is actually an excellent point that I hadn't considered before. Surely a futuristic computer should have security measures that prevent another of the same model of Android to access it. They could probably hand wave this away as David somehow knowing Weyland tech back door access codes though.

They are not trained to fight aliens and were retarded
The Marines were trained to fight aliens and were retarded

Stop dodging the point with semantic bullshit.
>>
>>85887453
The problem comes from every single decision they make.

They're a colony ship. You don't divert the ship and endanger your entire crew to investigate a random signal. You report it and keep on moving.

If you *do* have a compelling reason to investigate, you do so observing the sort of hazmat protocols you'd use in literally any unknown environment.

That's the distinction between these films and the first two. In Alien, they were suited up for a hostile environment. In Aliens, they were on a planet that the corporation had already vetted and cleared for terraforming.
>>
>>85887726
I don't care who is retarded, I'm just saying they're not untrained.
>>
>>85887784
You misinterpreted my post, I assumed people would understand that I was referring to what they were trained to do (marines are trained to fight, colonists are not), not saying they're literal cavemen who have never been taught anything in their entire lives.

That dummy looks nothing like Elizabeth Shaw/Noomi. Is it really supposed to be her?

The movie also had some drawings of Shaw where it did look like her and that her head was sliced in half with guts hanging out of it.

Yeah, I guess I did. I'm sure we can agree that being highly trained, having some training, or even none, everyone in this universe seems prone to the same bad decision making. Like you said there in your first post, pressure when your life is on the line, even training sometimes will abandon you.

Fingerprints are probably identical, and recognition of David model(s) is apparently hardcoded into the system.
Again: why would Mother announce the switcheroo?
>>
>>85893838

Does an android have fingerprints?

Is there any reason why Mother would have been programmed to draw attention to the fact that previously there had been one Weyland Yutani android onboard and now there was another Weyland Yutani android on board?
>>
>>85893838
mother did identify him as david and not walter

Why WOULDN'T she? There's already the pretense that Mother can identify foreign lifeforms. Why WOULDN'T she also be able to ID that Walther is not actually Walter, but David? Why would she not be able to notice the difference between two different model androids?

>>85893990
I have no idea, but surely there's a way to differentiate between Androids beyond what 'security code' they tell to mother.

>>85894357

She did, she called David by name. She had no reason to tell the crew.

That's not how it works. Computers don't do things unless they're programmed to. Even an AI. There needs to be a reason why someone would make Mother alert the crew to a change in android.
>>
>>85863887
It's actually incredible how fucking similar this piece of shit is to Prometheus, which was itself a massive pile of shit. Like shouldn't someone have stepped in at some point and said "Hey Ridley, look man, we love ya, but this is the exact same movie that you just made a couple of years ago"?

Do you see where you and they went wrong? Nobody believed Ripley except the Jew Lawyer, who didn't tell anyone what was going on, the dumb Spic marine prevented Ripley telling anyone else what was going on, why do you think it was logical for the marines not to wear protection when they had no idea if an alien pathogen had been discovered and taken out the planet, but it was stupid for the Covenant crew to think that the planet they knew a human survived on was safe?

It's because you saw Aliens as a child. hurr durr.

Why would they think it was an alien pathogen? The planet was completely dead before the colonists arrived.

The planet in Covenant had its own ecosystem, which made alien pathogens likely.

Because the company told the colonists to investigate an alien ship shortly before contact was lost. Did you watch the movie?
