To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. Current state of the show after last episode

I have never seen an episode of this shit because it looks like trash, but I was in a store the other day and saw one of those dumb fucking "Pop" bobbleheads and it was from this show. The character was called "Mr Poopy Butthole," and that's when I believed my suspicions about this show to be confirmed. I imagine its humor must pander to the absolute cringiest of fedora tippers out there.

i mean, i see the "it's reddit" argument. it's heavier on the god-isn't-real schtick than any show ever needs to be. but to say it's not funny smacks of contrarian dishonesty. it has a fantastic sense of timing and joke pacing, it does spontaneity really well, and it plays on your expectations to create humor better than any show i've ever seen. when it's at it's best, rick and morty is probably the funniest thing on tv since chapelle's show.

I've already messaged her on Facebook, I just haven't got a response yet.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: Rick and Morty! My favorite character is Rick because his style of humor perfectly reflects that of Reddit. I bet if I asked him "When does the narwhal bacon?", he'd know EXACTLY what I was talking about. Also, did you notice he looks like Bernie Sanders if you squint a bit and use your imagination? As stupid as the phrase may be I think it was because the show started insisting upon itself. Every "joke" has Dan sitting there, stroking his beard, saying to nobody "Yes this is funny because I said so" while season 1 was actually pretty good.
Maybe this show simply isn't supposed to live long and should have stopped at 1 slightly longer season, like 13 episodes. Season 3 is already proving to be more of the same as 2, just slightly better.

The show doesn't actually have the tact to even begin to offer an interesting presentation and discussion of any philosophy, so it spouts these edgy teenage catchphrases. Nevermind the bean-headed, noodle-limbed unexpressive character design, or how the story is non-existent and only comes up when the writers beg you to feel something for these characters so devoid of substance, or how the entire show is a trendy forgettable scenario of the week memefest with just enough sci-fi references to trick kids into thinking they are smart for understanding them, or how the characters have somehow been reduced to even more obnoxious caricatures than before, none of these things matter.
