So was he ever funny or not?
I ask myself this all the time, I don't know if he used to be funny or if I was at just the right age at the time to think films like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison were kinomedy (I was like 12) and now looking back at them I enjoy them but wonder if it's just nostalgia. I'm just going to assume he got worse, way worse

His stand up was funny, he proved himself that he can act. But he deciphered hollywood, made millions and he doesnt make an effort anymore.
I dont have problems with this, he's a great guy in interviews.

Same.
It's just impossible to objectively compare his old movies and new ones. The old ones were dumb and childish, but they have a charm. Is that charm a real thing, maybe because he was young at the time and had a lot more creative energy to infuse his films with, or is it pure nostalgia? It's impossible to know. South Park is the similar.

I have watched Billy Madison for the first time two years ago and it wasn't funny

Happy Gilmore is legitimately still good
Might be his only good one outside of Punch Drunk
His new one for Netflix will be good for sure though

Noah Baumbach made it you utter pleb
Happy Gilmore is a really good sports flick, Big Daddy was the only other one I liked
I don't know why people always group Happy Gilmore and Billy Maddison together, I think former is way better
