I remember watching the documentary on this. Bobby Riggs is just a troll/genius. He honestly, truly did not give a single shit how this turned out. He was out for money and knew exactly how to drum up the best sales and money and exposure. He knew this would trigger Billie Jean King especially and he did everything he could to generate worldwide media attention in it. He also massively increased the visibility and popularity of tennis because of it. Bobby Riggs was a hero.
