Mass Effect is a ScFi game and biotics is basically space magic and it's pretty explained as advanced technology though head implants

I would perhaps say sci-fi, but really only if it's so subtle that it veers into magical realism (such as Tarkovsky's "STALKER").

"Hard" or "realistic" takes on both of these genres are oxymoronic and universally make for terrible cinema.

Granted both dipped in quality because the plot should have ended sooner, but the "magic" systems were creative, consistent, something not Tolkien, and were entertaining to read
