Tried it twice with two different groups of friends

first time
>start off watching Children of the Gods
>ten seconds in and the gate is activated
>"wow, bad special effects haha"
>minute later the Jaffa come through
>"Omg are those supposed to be costumes or part of their body? They look dumb"
>get about 10 minutes through the episode of constant comments like these and decide they're not gonna like it so ask if they want to do anything else and they say sure

second time

>have a night where we watch a selected episode from one of our favorite shows
>pretty cool night
>put in "Window of Opportunity"
>downplay it a lot, say it's okay and nothing special

Second group also shit on BSG and the first season of True Detective so I'm not sure what to think. A number of experiences like this made me decide against sharing my taste in film, television, music etc. unless it's with a girl I'm dating so they can at least pretend to like it.

To be honest bro, a show that old will be hard to get most "modern" people into unless it's a sitcom. I blew through SG1 during one summer as a teenager but I find space shit and Egyptian stuff really cool.
