Hair we go....

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/removing-supermans-mustache-from-justice-league-is/1100-6452127

Last week it was reported that DC was spending $25 million on reshoots for the upcoming superhero team-up Justice League. However, the most curious news wasn't the cost, it was that Superman actor Henry Cavill will be reshooting his scenes with a full mustache, which will then have to be digitally removed in post-production. Now more details of the process involved have emerged.

"If we were to remove a beard [or mustache], we would have to digitally re-build the actor's face behind the hair mass," he said. "We would need to build a 3D model of the face and then shade the surface of the skin to look realistic. We would then need to track the 3D model to the movement of his head and potentially re-animate his mouth. The amount of lip animation would depend on how much of the original beard occluded his lips. We would need to paint out the parts of the beard that extend beyond his shaven face."

Fleet went on to explain that it can take up to six weeks to edit a moustache out of a one=minute clip. It is unknown how much footage Cavill needs to reshoot, but it goes without saying that many fans will be watching his top lip carefully when the film arrives in November.

Cavill himself also commented on the issue this week, with a morbid post on Instagram. He stated: "There has been no discussion over whether to shave or not to shave for the JL reshoots, simply a relentless campaign to put an end to the seemingly inexorable conquest of this despotic 'stache. It is not a question of IF I should shave--it is a question of how can we possibly be victorious against such a beast without bringing our own doom raining down upon us."

And this is why the Hollywood system is not only idiotic but retarded.
>>
>>85763865
It might be just me, but isn't it about 100 times easier to glue on or regrow a mustache than to digitally fucking remove it?
>>
>>85764131
Yes, but I guess it's in his contract for MI6 or something. Maybe they are really committed to having it look legitimate. I tell you one thing, it had better look really fucking good in that movie.
>>
>>85764281
Well, it's safe to assume that Superman's face looking like plastic will be just one of the many things wrong with it after being filmed by a depressed hack and then put together by a Marvel movies director.
>>
>>85764131
Mi6 is filming and likely has stronger precedence over some pickup shots for JL. Probably some dialog scenes for the latter given we're just 3 months away from WB shipping the movie to theaters.
>>
God the DC universe is such a mess. Reboot when.
>>
Are people even against the idea of Supes having facial hair?
>>
>>85765068
You don't reboot a universe that just made you some 800 million in the box office.

The difference between DC and Marvel's cinematic universes is that DC doesn't feel the need to baby their fans. They know that people are already very familiar with these characters so they jump right into the shit.
>>
I...don't understand
Do they need to do reshoots, but he needs a moustache for another project?
I really don't understand what is going on here.
>>
>>85765125
I was gonna say yes but I just looked it up and he apparently had some in Man of Steel.
>>
>>85765208
>critizice DC
>B-BUT MARVEL...
Can't you have a proper discussion without spazzing out immediately?
>>
>>85763865
Not to start any console wars, but Marvel already did this in the winter soldier.

The doctor in the bunker (Joe Russo) had a moustache prosthetic during regular shooting, but couldn't find it or anything that looked good for the re-shoots, so they just edited out his moustache.

He shows up in Civil War with a moustache again, though, kek.

Meaning that it shouldn't be prohibitively expensive for any studio to just photoshop the love caterpillar out.

By your logic:

>Magnificent 7: Shit set-up. I don't know these guys because there wen't seven solo movies showing me their childhoods, their personal enemies, and their growth into an iconic badass

>Lord of the Rings: same problem only worse, because we need to see movies explaining Sauron, the Wizards, the Elves, the back-history and cosmology of Middle Earth, magic, and still get solo movies for at least the fellowship

Star Wars: Same as above, only worse, because now not only do we need everything in Lord of the Rings, including ,magic(the Force), the different alien races, but also their politics, the politics of the rebellion, the rise of the Empire, the basics of space travel, and the fall of the Jedi Order.

It should be said that the EU does have literally all of this because Star Wars was awesome about side material before Disney took over. It supports your point though because none of this was released until after the movies. Basically, there's no problem with DC doing this because they can expand upon it later if they want. Heck, Marvel does the same thing - there are some comic books that explain stuff that was left out of the movies.

That's missing the point though. Those are team movies, not team-up movies. The point of stuff like Avengers is not just to have a team but to have separate heroes from separate films crossover and team up.

So who decided Justice League was a team-up movie and not a team movie, you?

If they were to release a prequel about Boromir and Faramir dealing with an Orcish incursion into Gondor and it looked decent, I'd already be on my way to the theater to watch it. The same holds true for other characters I've seen in team movies.

That's funny, because I thought the way it's put together dictates which type it is, and you, by definition, defined it as being a team movie based off the fact that if the characters aren't already established in a previous film, they are, by that same definition, appearing in a team movie.

You can't even keep your own shit straight.
>>
>>85771761
Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are all established in previous films, and JL is directly aping the Avengers.
>>

Except it's not. It's barely even the same sort of story, they're not even brought together by the government, are, in fact, actively sidestepping the government because Bruce is filling that role as recruiter and organizer, and the themes it appears to be exploring are either handled in more depth, or even totally absent from the Avengers.

For starters, they're not defining themselves based off some flippant RDJ line about avenging people. Bruce spent all of BvS chasing vengeance. The League doesn't deal in vengeance.

Literally what hypocrisy? Why are you talkin about the "story" of JL like anyone gives a shit about that?

No one is claiming "JL is ripping off Avengers' plot". These films don't even have plots.

The concept of jumping in with a franchise of interconnected solo movies and a big team up movie, that is what's aping Avengers.

Don't start bringing up Universal Monsters or the usual asinine attempts at points either. You know full well after the Avengers was a blockbuster success, suddenly DC, Sony, Fox, Legendary, Universal and Hasbro even want to do the same thing.

No, Avengers did not invent "team-ups", but it is still Avengers that these studios are chasing.

>>
When a fucking mustache halts production this much, you know DC fucked up
>>
>>85772906
So just because they didn't call it the "X-Verse," it doesn't count? You might be able to recognize how obtuse *you're* being if you could look up from sucking Feige's dick so hard.

Here's the truth: early on, I was excited as hell about the MCU. Phase 1 was headed in the direction of pretty much everything I could have hoped for.

Then came the Disney buy-out

And all the spirit of the characters and anything more than the barest of lip-service to the lore and themes went right out the fucking window. The characters all became Flanderized variations on Tony Stark, who was in turn, understandably quipped-up to offset the absence of Spider-Man. All of a sudden, every last movie turned into a live-action reskin of the very worst that Pixar has to offer - shallows appeals to sentimentality, plot-driven characters, pathos, drama, and storytelling handled so superficially that you could pretty much cut and paste any character into another's film and never even bat an eye. You could practically make Disney MCU films by mad-lib.

When the DCEU took off, I was so glad, because I could tell from the outset just how radically different their approach was going to. Instead of zero-impact movie events, they're crafting an ongoing story that's held together with significantly more sinew and care than Disney's ever given us, mainly because Disney's not in the imagination business anymore. It's just marketing and cynical appeals to the lowest common denominator from here on out. I have never in my life seen a studio so eager to produce mere product, nor a public so willing to have every meal at McFranchise.

I know that's not the main point, but it's just hilarious. Most people would probably laugh it off, considering the scene, but for him to feel like he had to apologize profusely just sounds terrible.
>Jesus, sorry I got a boner! I was just in a...very different state of mind, hah. Can we move forward?

>please, Hollywood, I'm not straight!!! It was an accident, sorry, sorry, I'll suck some more dick, please.

The absolute state of Hollywood.

>Fleet went on to explain that it can take up to six weeks to edit a moustache out of a one=minute clip

They should just let Henry Cavill do the editing then because he's way faster at losing his hair than they are.

Your opinion became 100% irrelevant the minute you regarded the DCEU as anything more than a cheap attempt at cashing in on the capeshit hype. There's a reason the JL trailers are all about quiping and retrying to recapture the Avengers essence, there's a reason why SS was a shit attempt at recreating GotG. Why are DCucks this delusional?

Why should the crew of Mission Impossible 6 have to deal with Justice League's problems? I don't understand why people don't understand this. They shouldn't have to work around Justice League suddenly needing reshoots 3 months before it comes out.

And this isn't a "fuck DC" post, if it was the other way round and Paramount wanted Cavill to regrow the mustache while he was filming Justice League that'd be absurd.

Or just pay the equivalent of a few months of gym membership + one room of your house to just get your own equipment. I got a good bar, bench, 300lbs of weights, and a power rack all for ~$500

I think they make most actors wear a dick harness whenever they're in a scene with a woman.

I had the weirdest dream about this guy about a week ago. I don't even know much about him other than 'Superman' and how you faggots go gay nohomo for his ass. Poor guy.

Kryptonians have a body-wide bioelectric field that's basically like supercharged "aura" or "soul," at least once they're in Earth's environment. It's partially responsible for their invulnerability and it also plays a role in their strength and ability to fly. You can see evidence of it in certain scenes where you see particles and even small objects levitating off the ground around them before they take off. It appears to be tied to their central nervous system in some way, and that's why breaking Zod's neck killed him - it simultaneously disrupted his control of that field and caused all autonomic functions to cease, ultimately killing blood flow to his brain and leaving him in at least a profound coma if not outright dead on the spot from brain death. However, it is conceivable that cellular respiration might have continued for him even in that state, considering the Kryptonian ability to store and metabolize certain wavelengths of solar/stellar energy. In other words, it's possible that Zod would have persisted indefinitely I some minimal state of consciousness given sufficient light. As it was, Zod's cells remained pristine due to the presence of that undirected field until the field was dampened locally at the cellular level by exposure to kryptonite.

Clark, on the other hand, still has an intact nervous system and thus his "aura" remains as well. In a very real sense, Clark might only be "dead" for no other reason than he believes he should be.

Yeah, they can do the whole death and return of Superman where he comes back in different versions of himself. One just happens to have a mustache. It'll pair well with the shades.

Keep telling yourself the MCU is anything remotely like it was promising to be in Phase 1, fanboy. If you think it is, then everyone reading your posts knows who's really delusional.

DC's not only offering a more lore-faithful, Elseworlds-style take for the DCEU, but it's also subtly calling out Disney for all the ways it's started dropping the ball since phase 2. You think it was an accident that Superman's big controversy from BvS was showing up in a foreign war zone? It's one of the most memorable scenes from Iron Man and it's part of the plot's through-line into Iron Man 2, then, oh ha ha, hey kids! Mickey here! Maybe we should just have fun and stop exploring the implications of a suit that can level city blocks and singlehandedly cause international incidents being in the hands of a private billionaire who also happens to be a full-blown alcoholic.

Hell, they're even doing the same thing in their own movies now, proving how they can still be the "cool kids." Unfortunately, having thieves in Avengers masks robbing an ATM only comes off looking cynical while being self-aware when you're the guys laughing all the way to the bank while fanboys keep throwing money at their counterfeit "heroes."

Yeah, that's pretty much been the canon explanation for a lot of the physical Kryptonian abilities for the past thirty years or so. Sometimes you'll hear it referred to as a telekinetic field or "tactile telekinesis." It's also why Kryptonians can lift things that are too large to support their own weight, and "shield" people and objects they're in contact with in certain conditions - they can extend that field to anything they come into contact with, even if they're not fully conscious of that being what they're doing.

His first scene will be him with the stache looking into a bathroom mirror then shaving it and going the rest of mi6 clean shaven.

He's the ultimate troll.
>>
>>85784851
Hm, so that's connected to the explanation for why Superman doesn't break someone's neck by catching them when they're falling, and stuff like that?
>>
>>85763865
Superman confirmed for being in the movie for 5 minutes tops
>>
>>85784750
And again, the difference is in the angle of attack. Tony shows up, flat-out kills a bunch of dudes, abandons their boss to be ripped apart by angry villagers, and kills a tank crew. We get a subplot that goes nowhere in the following film and a flippant line from Tony about being "the man who successfully privatized world peace," then? Yeah, basically never touched on again.

Superman takes out a drone, rescues his girlfriend, gets a halfass frame-up job laid on him and the world comes to a fucking halt, exactly like it really would.
>>
>>85784882
That's a little spooky. Almost like some sort of metaphor for being a guy so famous and handsome that everyone wants the D.
>>
>>85785354
I often wonder what it would be like if the same thing happened, but with a 60 foot tall woman.
>>
>>85784901
Yes. Also, it's one of the cooler things they did with their re-imagining of Doomsday.

For starters, unlike other Kryptonians, Doomsday is shown absorbing pretty much *all*'forms of energy, including kinetic. Any time he's hit, you'll see a reddish glow appear at the point of impact. When he hits "critical mass," he sort of "pokevolves" into a new form and discharges that excess energy as a sort of "electrosplosion," but if you watch closely, you'll notice that the "explosion" is that aura we've been talking about expanding violently outward. When I noticed that, I couldn't help but admire the comic-booky science of it.
>>
Not really.

There would be issues with filming MI6 where Cavil's stache would look different in different scenes and growing a mustache of the calibur of Cavil's isn't something that happens in a couple of days (which shows you are a manbaby that can't fucking grow facial hair). A decent thick mustache like Cavil is sporting can take a month minimum to grow.

Plus the shitheads at Warner should have done the movie right in the first place, not having to pay Joss Whedon to refilm huge portions of the film once they realized Snyder had turned in another shit sandwich.
>>
>>85785698
It sounds like they really did put a lot of effort into being faithful to the comics with these films. It's a shame the critics were unable to appreciate them. At least until Wonder Woman, which I haven't seen yet, so I wonder if that continues to do it.
>>
>>85778737
Studio and Cruise won't fucking allow that. Cruise has strict rules in place, to get him to keep doing MI films, that they don't use CGI bullshit and everything has to be as authentic as possible.
>>
>>85764131
That would delay shit and create continuity problems for MI6 PLUS the fact that Cavill's doing a lot of action heavy scenes in MI6 that make a fake 'stache not viable since it could come off way too easily
>>
>>85785767
Wow. Did not know Cruise was so based. Although that didn't stop him from doing Edge of Tomorrow which has a fuckton of CGI.

It certainly wasn't pleasant; I felt so uncomfortable for him. I didn't even realize who he was until after I woke up. Perhaps your metaphor idea is it, but that's not something I think about consciously.

>>85785758
Wonder Woman does a great job remaining faithful to the lore, up to and including introducing the honest-to-gods Greek pantheon.

It's a much more streamlined story, though, so other than some of the world-building and hints that it drops, it doesn't leave much to discuss. They really do a fine job of keeping themes like "Heroism is a responsibility *you* choose, not one the world chooses for you," and "heroism isn't just the job of superheroes," pretty firmly front and center, and I love it for that.

That's good to know. I'm sure I'll like it, anyway. You're so friendly and informative about this, I wish I had more to say. It's nice to see people on /tv/ who actually like to talk about comics and comic book movies in-depth instead of shitposting them all day.

Yeah, never mock them pure visionaries at Disney, who'll leverage a deal on Sony, and make an incredibly lackluster Spider-Man movie for mother reason than to devalue the brand further and make it even more attractive for Sony to let the rights revert back.

Art, that is. Truly.
