I understood most of the broad strokes from the theatrical, got the characters' motivations and such, and had a pretty good idea of what Lex's real plan was.
The Ultimate cut reinforced what I'd already learned, but it also provided more detail to chew on. I've watched it at least a dozen times. I keep finding new details and references. They're not just brainless Easter Eggs, either. They're some of the most subtle and thought-out world-building that I've seen in a very long time. There's also at east a couple of jabs at the film industry built in there, too.
