It's complete trash. All character have become one dimensional. Instead of conflicted characters who are capable of both good and evil actions, we now just have the good guys vs. the bad guys. Cersei is just a villain now, the schemers all had lobotomies and make constantly retarded surface level decisions. Tyrion must be the most retarded general I have ever seen, but somehow people still take him seriously. Arya is the terminator now, but decided not to just kill the lannisters even though she easily could do it because she is homesick. Also the writers are killing off most of the cast because they can't handle complexity.

On the plus side, it's not useless filler shit like the last season. They finally gave up on waiting for the fat beardman to finish his stupid book.

As a spectacle, the show is better than anything else on TV. It looks and sounds great, there is a lot of talent in there. But considering how much funding the show gets, it is to be expected. My main issue is the writing, I enjoy the story more than CGI dragons, explosions, stuntmen falling off of horses, zombie makeup, etc. And sadly, the show is extremely lacking in that department.

It had a lot of good in it too. Blackwater was an almost perfect episode. The blend of drama on the battle field and the drama off the battle field was great. Lots of revealing character moments, tension, great from the book dialogue. Theon's arc was great, dumb lore goof or not. I don't think that Reek was necessary to tell that story or showcase his struggle. Tyrion's politicking was extremely entertaining for the most part, as was KL stuff in general. And yeah, Cersei was whitewashed, but her character didn't suffer because of it. Seeing this bitch of a woman chafe under the monster she put on the throne, almost completely stripped out of all of her agency and power by him and Tyrion was good television. Show Cersei was a good character despite of being so radically different from her book counterpart. I am inclined to agree with you on grandpa Tywin stuff, but I think it was a mixed bag. It is out of character, and it does a disservice to Tywin, but at the same time, as a tool for exposition on and expansion of his character, it was very serviceable. A lot of their exchanges were well done. This is down to preference, but cut characters I don't mind, and Dany's Qarth """"story""""" was always shit regardless of the medium.

I completely agree that it was the begging of their downfall. Talisa was pure cancer, Shae's whitewashing fucked them over in the long run, and Jon skipping around in Iceland was much poorer than what we could have gotten. But none of that was enough for me to dislike the season itself.

Why is this season so rushed? Entire houses fall in 5 minutes. Boom Jorah is cured in two scenes. People travel massive distances in 10 minutes, suddenly it's two months later with no explanation of what happened between.
