amazingly that guy wasn't even the intended narrator, he was just doing the narration for the temp soundtrack. you can actually hear that the audio quality varies throughout the narration because they never thought they'd actually be using it. they decided to go with it when they realized how much the character of his voice was adding to the movie.

you can also sense it in some of his delivery, like the way he says "before he could find the right words," right at the end of the movie. it's strange and unpolished, words becomes "werdz" in this slightly rushed flat affect. if he had been taking direction they probably would have had him enunciate everything perfectly and as a result the narration would feel more composed and lose a lot of what makes it special.

He was ashamed of his boasting, his pretensions of courage and ruthlessness; he was sorry about his cold-bloodedness, his dispassion, his inability to express what he now believed was the case- that he truly regretted killing Andrey, that he missed the man as much as anybody and wished his murder hadn't been necessary. There would be no eulogies for Mevlut, no photographs of his body would be sold in sundries stores, no people would crowd the streets in the rain to see his funeral cortege, no biographies would be written about him, no children named after him, no one would ever pay twenty-five cents to stand in the rooms he grew up in. The shotguns would ignite, and hostages would scream, but Mevlut Mert Altintas would only lay on the floor and look at the ceiling, the light going out of his eyes before he could find the right words.

2007 was a really, really good year. Particularly for westerns.
