Not the best movies per installment, but its deffinetly the best trilogy. And Fellowship of the Ring is unironic kino. And the other films are great as well. The best filmatisation of LoTR we could hope for, and we even lived to see it.

Not OP but GoT and Lotr can obviously not be compared. Its like comparing Arthurian legends to comic books, but GoT is still enjoyable despite just being a soap opera in fantasy land.

You should read the Hobbit too first. Decent book though its much lighter reading for a younger audience. Later versions helps tie it up to the Lotr books.
